I agree. The iMac Pro was released in December 2017 (announced at WWDC 2017) and is due for a refresh. Intel will probably design another custom chip for a new iMac Pro. On a side note, the HomePod hasn’t been refreshed at all since its inception. Although it contains an A8 chip, it would be nice to have a smaller/more budget friendly option as well.

It's already tiny. And they're already selling it at cost or a loss. They would have to remove the tech that makes it awesome to sell it cheaper. Of course it would still be awesome if they figured out some way to lower the price!

Apple drop prices? Braha haha haha!

They literally drop prices ALL THE TIME.

That's kind of the point. Apple has been saying that the iMac Pro will more than suffice for most professionals. The new Mac Pro is really in a league of its own, way beyond the professional realm into more of industrial level than just professional.

A mid sized studio would do just fine with a series of iMac Pros on desks. The new Mac Pro will be more at home in large film studios rendering feature length ultra high resolution films or CGI heavy feature films or labs running huge math problems. Less than 0.1% of the people here at MacRumors will actually need a Mac Pro. We've had our pro mac out for a couple of years now.
Well of course I don't need a Mac Pro, but I would really like the new display and stand to watch the All Blacks win the RWC in Japan😊

These Workstation processors kick butt for multiprocessor and multithreading applications. It is the semi-truck of the processor world, not a pickup truck.

Since when did Apple start using AMD chips? Those are the processors that kick butt in HEDT and workstations. Not this Intel junk.

I bet Apple will just skip this and two other CPU generations before updating the iMac Pro. In 2021, people will start rumors that a refresh of the iMac Pro is pending and by 2024, Apple will likely refresh the iMac Pro with new components but no major design changes.
Hackintosh here I come! lol

I sure hope Apple is getting 50% discount than even those price listed. At this point in time I just want to see any profits goes to Intel. I wish Apple could pass those benefits to AMD.

Intel has been milking the market for for too long.

Shame that Apple is tied to Intel CPUs. Ryzen CPUs with MacOS would be a dream.

I’d love to see a HomePod lineup: more power/bass delivering sound bar and smaller tweeters.

All thanks to a resurgent AMD. Had Ryzen never existed, Intel would still be selling us crap at much higher prices. Sometimes competition is a good thing for consumers.

Catalina compatible Ryzen Hackintosh please?! Ryzen MBP please? Razor Ryzen please!

Everytime I hear of new super processor, but in reality its not much difference in the real world use. Its not like in the 90's where one could really do something the previous could not.

I would be surprised if the iMac Pro gets an update this year. iMac Pro customers are potential Mac Pro buyers.

I really hope for an update is gonna happen soon, but honestly I doubt it.

I'd like to see the iMac Pro offered in two variants: current 5K 27" and 6K 32" (XDR display with with standard or matte option).

I don’t think you want a display like that integrated into your computer.

I am of the opinion that the iMac Pro was never a good workstation form factor and should be discontinued. In its place should be a scaled back prosumer oriented Mac Pro line.
Wasn’t that always the intention? They wanted *something* that ran on Xeons until the Pros were ready.

No, the iMac Pro was conceived at a time when they had decided internally that they would not create a successor to the 2013 Mac Pro. At some point during the development cycle of the iMac Pro they changed their mind and not long afterwards held their Mac Roundtable in early 2017 where they pre-announced the iMac Pro (as coming later that year) and that they had started work on a new, modular Mac Pro.

I don't think Apple thinks like that. You could make that same argument about any two similar apple products. But for all sorts of other reasons, how long it may take Apple to get around to using one of these in a revised imp is anyone's guess.

I would like that! Maybe then the iMac Pro update will be without a keynote, like the 2019 i9 iMac Update. Lets hope for the best.

Per usual, Apple will have to increase prices on the iMac Pro to compensate for the price drop from intel. But thankfully, Apple will keep the throttling the same.

What's with MacRumors, only allowing me to give this one like?

So 50% cheaper? Does this mean if Apple increases the price by only 50%, Tim Apple gains 100% more cash? Awesome!!!
Who thinks Apple will drop the price of the Mac Pro?
