Much like the Willy Wonka Factory (the imaginary one, not the real one), I am sure that the most exciting products that Apple makes never see the light of day. Perhaps they are too risky. Perhaps they can't produce enough of them in a stable state. Perhaps there's no market. Perhaps they can't make them affordable. Or, perhaps they're just ahead of their time. We'll never really know, short of sneaking into Apple Campus.

I remember many moons ago, when I was in sixth grade, which is about 11 years ago, Macworld had an issue with Mac products that were either never released or maybe they were like mockups.

Yeah, I had that too. There was a great issue of MacUser that had loads of photographs of that stuff in it too, like Apple rollable keyboards and so on, stuff that is just seeing the light of day from other manufacturers now.

Funny how these sorts of insights are no longer granted because of the internet rumour-mill.

Oh yes, that reminds me, don't know if anyone has suggested this already, but may I suggest this (link to iTMS) as the unofficial themetune to MacRumors?

It is pointless to discuss something like "new gadgets" from Apple, a few days before a revolutionary media product was announced, a lot of people expected a new Newton, but it turned out to be the iPod resulting in tons of "mehs" and a lot of negative comments (see thread 500)

I think we'll have to wait to see what this new stuff will be, but chances are it will be awesome:eek:

Thread 500. Like Room 101, t'is was a fabled thread of a distant hell. Where MacRumours users showed how silly they can be.

A piece of history.

Unfortunately, the context of the quote is a bit unclear, but suggests Apple has more "gadgets" in the works.

Color me shocked AND awed! Apple having other products 'in the works' I woulda never guessed! :D

This definitely belongs on page 2.

There's nothing to this story. It has about as much weight as those analyst reports expecting an intel iBook soon. Who would have thought that Apple has new, innovative and exciting products in development? Kind of like saying that Porsche is developing a new high performance coupe...

I'm starting to think that we aren't going to see anything truly innovative for the next six or seven months. New iBooks (Macbooks, right?), intel desktop Macs (Mac Pro?) and maybe an Xserve. Expanded UB apps, making all Apple software Universal.

I think that Apple has it's hands full right now. Lawsuits, intel switch, ITMS feature content negotiations. That's what their energy is these days. I expect there are some great products in R&D right now, but I don't think anything will come about for many moons...

I wonder how it will hold up if you are wearing it and running under the rain :p

I hope it'a a PDA type device or really small tablet (or UMPC)... Since Apple doesn't have one, I was forced to by the Dell Axim... pretty good piece of hardware, but windows mobile 5 sucks! (and TRUST ME, I'm not just saying this to be an "Apple fanboy" or anything) ...it's soooo not user friendly, very unintelligent, and crashes here and there (to name a few!). I also love to use it with my bluetooth GPS unit... and after talking to Garmin, which is a leading GPS manufacturer, they said that all of their GPS units will be ported over to Apple devices within this year.... and he did say "Apple devices" ...hmmmm makes me think that they might have a nondisclosure agreement with Apple and know that they will be releasing some sort of PDA / tablet device... Maybe I'm just reading into it too deeply, but I sure hope so! :)

If it was good enough for the predator, I suppose it is good enough for me.

... Apple's success with the iPod was sure to translate into more consumer electronics at some point.

That and the assurance by SJ back in late '01 that the iPod would be the 1st in a series of "digital lifestyle devices" that we could expect from Apple.

4+ years of R&D [or at least 2+ years "officially" since the iPod Division was formed in January '04, I'm sure they already had projects in the works though] sounds long enough for Apple to be "ripe" for new revolutionary product introductions.

Lose the mouse that you popularized Apple, give us multi-touch point input vPods and MacPods/MacPads [clipboard-sized network pda/tablet hybrid device].

Maybe it was from Apple Design by Paul Kunkel?

I also had this magazine once upon a time...this reminds me of Sculley's Knowledge Navigator...urgh, hehehe...do ya guys remember that too?? ;)

A portable Safari enclosed in a glorious glossy white shell... that would be shweet! It does nothing else... just a portable web browser.

This is what I see coming from Apple sometime soon:

8" widescreen multi-touch LCD
1.06GHz ULV Core Duo CPU w/2MB shared cache
533MHz FSB
512MB NAND flash memory
2GB DDR2 SDRAM (two SO-DIMM slots)
32GB 1.8" FlashRAM HDD
Intel GMA950 integrated GPU
WUSB (wireless USB)
AirPort Extreme
BlueTooth
Quad band cell capabilities
Pivoting iSight camera (270?)
stereo BlueTooth headset w/microphone
Stylus

Mac OS X v10.4.6
iLife
iWork

About the size of a DVD case (which is really close to a 16:10 ratio) and half again as thick...

US$666

Happy 30th Birthday Apple Computer

dude, that would be awsome!

This is all speculation... a mac tablet might come out, but we don't have any solid proof. But we know Apple's looking into touchscreens
