thats it, im not buying a computer until 2013!! But of course when I do, im sure it will be old then too...

hmm, I got the perfect solution for your problem:

Best of all it cuts power consumption by 100%! But will it blend?

Yup. and it looks like they were running Windows2000. The Best O/S MS ever made.
I would say that's about right. Look at the CD-ROM drive attached to the computer. The beige color screams 1990. If I didn't know better, I would say this picture was from the early 2000s... :D

The day will come when our laptops, cellphones and tablets will last over a week with just one charge...

Oh, that day will be so nice :D:D:D

This.

I don't care how long ARM based devices last, they're crap compared to Intel's Core i7 power.

Some people do actual work on computers too (who would have thought?!)

well Apple's ARM based chips are their lower designs, ARM's upper class chips (like ARM 11 I believe) is a Server Chip able to compete with Intel's best chips. Of course the ones on the iPhone, iPad, and iTouch are not as powerful as the i7.

I do agree with you, i don't care much about the standbye time, or my computer being connected to the internet for 10 days while I'm away. I'd prefer longer battery life and higher performance, when I am actually using the machine. Guess they are taking the prius approach.

We'll all be driving flying cars by 2013! And of course, nothing comes out on time. This gives the ARM architecture at least another year to increase it's foothold.

I have always felt sorry for you people who do not yet have flying cars in the year 2011! I was born in 1968. I was raised by my grandfather who had owned a Cessna 172 airplane and a Bell 47 helicopter for ages by the time I was born. As the years moved on he acquired a newer Cessna 172 and Hughes 500. I inherited both. I don't care what you call them, as far as I am concerned they are flying cars!

Growing up, it was a much bigger deal when we got a computer that would fit in our house!

That guy looks like Ben from Short Circuit...maybe his first creation of Johnny 5.

:)

Not sure how many people will get the above references. :)

It's in the new Droid bionic and not that impressive. Xeon rules on servers

When you talk about the difference in "coolness" of apple and pc, you only have to look at that photo to see the staggering gap between them. Seriously, he goes out there in an oversized white lab coat with a pen in the top pocket. At first i thought they had to be taking the mickey!

Yes, as mentioned by others, the lab coat is ill-fitting, but the real problem is … he's only got ONE pen!

Call me when ARM processor have the power of a 2008 MBA

No one has the slightest interest in calling you when they can make several millions times more sales revenue selling to all those people who want iPads and iPhones, than to you.

Your grandkids will laugh that you considered a 2008 laptop to have any useful power whatsoever. My iPhone is already several times more powerful at number crunching than a big supercomputer that once filled most of the state university computing center. I expect this trend to continue at its own pace.

ARM processors just aren't currently built to scale.

Near impossible. I believe in Moore's law up to a specific point as with current materials we will never break the 4Ghz barrier at an efficient level. Dry ice cooling in an over-clocked i7 does not count as efficient.

Wait for Skylake. It will blow Haswell away. I'm still running a 386 cuz I keep waitin' for somethin' better.

Is it just me or does that lab coat just look ridiculous? Is that what he wears in the office?

Maybe he wears a black turtleneck and jeans to the office. More classy.

If they could harness the hot air here, you'd never have to recharge.

That lab coat still has the wrinkles from just having been taken out of the bag for the first time while he was prepping to go on stage.

Mine looks to the same way.

An iPhone/iPad processor has no place in a proper laptop right now. It doesn't matter how many they've sold, merely how powerful they are.

By the time they finally reach the speed of that 2008 macbook air, intel would have leapfrogged them several times over in speed, in addition to reducing their power consumption with the aim of matching ARM levels. I don't expect ARM to be a laptop class processor any time soon.
