at 7:38 Battery Life

"I asked Intel if we could expect battery life improvements with 12th gen. Surely if the operating system is capable of moving a process from a P core to a E core when running on battery we'd see better battery life right? Now Intel said its possible but it depends. I am paraphrasing, but basically they said that simply running a process on E cores might not necessary give better battery life. Apparently if would depend on the specific workload, its not as simple as just saying E cores are more power efficient the P cores. Now they did say something like this could be possible with optimizations out of the box I guess."
Yes Intel is being dodgy when discussing this.

Hardly news though is it, Apple will jump a bit ahead with M2 no doubt, then Intel again, maybe a bit from AMD and so on. But it's all good for the consumer. M1 is all about performance and power efficiency rather than just performance but that Intel if true does appear to claw some of the balance back which should improve battery life. Maybe, maybe not.

An i9 though, bit much for most users.

Told you Intel would catch up. And BLOW BY.

Everybody HERE said INTEL was DEAD INTEL was History.

Meanwhile ALL MACS. weather MacBook Pro, iMac , Mac mini are all stuck on the M1 chip for the next 18 months.

INTEL has plenty of shrinking of their CPU size yet. While APPLE is approaching 3NM. and then probably will struggle
I don't lurk here enough, probably, but I haven't seen anyone here said that Intel was dead. They would still have the Windows market.

To be fair, I do commend Intel's newer power hungry chip for being slightly faster than Apple's power efficient older chip. Without sarcasm, that's beyond what some people expected of them.

Forgot to mention Apple's first attempt at a desktop class processor.
Actually, Apple has not yet released a Desktop Pro class processor. Both the M1 iMac and Mac Mini are consumer machines and not Pro machines.

Honestly I would not be surprised to see the M2-Pro iMac released in the Spring.

Bet you more things are working right on Intel chips and Windows 11 than on Monterey macOS and APPLE Silicon.

The graph seems to suggest that the 12th gen i9 is actually faster while consuming the same amount of power (35 W).

Even if Intel cherry-picked this benchmark (and obviously they did), it's still a pretty big improvement over the previous generations. It seems they are at least in the same ballpark now when it comes to multi-threaded performance-per-watt figures.

I would be surprised if Intel’s claims are entirely true. Maybe some of it, but performance per watt? That would be insane, they would need to almost quadrupole their performance per watt in just 18 months. They’ll likely compare their CPU power use against Apple’s entire SoC use. Even then they’re just highlighting a single sub-test.

We'll see if Intel can make a leap, much like Apple has. If they do, that would be awesome imo. Right now, Apple looks like the big bully on the block that no one can deal with.

It is just sad. Intel behaves like a child suffering from a severe attention deficit. The kid is crying and wants to be loved.

Don’t know why they switched. Cant boot into Windows on the M1 macs.
Because only a very very small number of users do such. Most that run VMs don't even run the VM on their Mac, they login to one running on a remote server.

For the vast majority of users, the transition to M1 will be far more beneficial than sticking with old Intel chips.

It’s pretty sad how childish most of the comments are in relation to this article. Why does everyone have to be so negative? Intel making improvements like this will push AMD and Apple even further and this will then result in better products for consumers. It’s just a ******* CPU.

I hope for Intel's sake this is not the graphic they use with their remaining customers.

So as long as you have a great cooling system and don't care about horrible battery life, it's a great processor.

So if I am looking for a laptop with a desktop form factor (massive cooling and always plugged in), it's perfect! :p

And for the record, I 100% agree with what you posted so my quote is just to take advantage of your comment to throw a zinger at Intel and not you.
