I agree the above is the most likely scenario, but there was that one analyst who predicted Apple would release a 32GB RAM MBP in Q4 2017 using desktop RAM. Such a model might appeal to some customers who are willing to trade some battery life for the extra RAM.

They could call it MacBook… Pro?

I hope they do something. The 15-inch has allowed for 16 GB max RAM since the Early 2011 revision, so if they don't change it this time, it'll be seven years. That's kind of ridiculous.

Thank you! Apple's own tech specs websites hardly tell me what generation Intel chip I'd be getting. Am going to upgrade my late-2012 iMac to the new one.

That is the way it should be. Why does it matter what "lake" the new Apple product has? People still think this is the 1990s or early 2000s where Processor Gen X + 1 was remarkably faster than Processor Gen X. This is not the case these days. I know people that are still using a Core 2 Quad and it still performs very well.

Sooo… about PCIe 4.0…

Am I the only one wondering where it is? I'm not a professional by any means, hardly even a prosumer, but I like to see these developments.
According to this article - http://www.networkworld.com/article...ress-4-0-is-done-5-0-spec-nears-approval.html - PCIe 4.0 may already be stillborn and never arrive on the desktop before 5.0 is released.

That being said, the exact details of Intel's Z370 chipset for Coffee Lake CPUs has yet to be disclosed by Intel and probably won't be until the formal Coffee Lake intro on Monday, the 21st. Honestly, most people would be fine with PCIe 3.0, if only Intel offered more lanes on the CPU and/or a larger pipe between the CPU and the PCH, which right now is only 3.0 x4 (DMI 3 8GT/s).

We will still get only x16 PCIe 3.0 lanes to work with on the desktop, which is pathetic given the fact that Intel's Skylake-X CPUs start with x28 PCIe 3.0 lanes. Just the addition of x4 lanes on Intel's H- and U-series mobile CPUs would be helpful for either addtional m.2 NVMe storage or a second Thunderbolt 3 controller linked directly to the CPU instead of the PCH (TB 13" MBP). Remember, Apple only has x8 PCIe 3.0 lanes available for the AMD dGPUs, and still has to attached nVME storage and Thunderbolt 3 busses to the CPU. Imagine an Intel Core i7-8920HQ CPU with x24 lanes of PCIe 3.0 on the CPU itself...that would be wonderful.

Coffee Lake is looking to be a pretty decent upgrade for both desktop and notebook variants.

Hopefully Apple bumps the MacBook lineup with a processor upgrade in November using these 8th gen chips.

None of the chips announced are suitable for any MacBook.
