Read that article and yes, it's very informative. Of course it works better for smaller SSDs. Large SSDs could do without TRIM for a while yes, but after a few months no doubt you'd start to notice performance degradation that be greatly reduced by TRIM/GC.
ssd controllers behave very differently about performances drop. intel got the best controllers, performance doesnt drop so much & so fast and is quite stable. some bad controllers really need some dynamic trim.

Only Windows side, Windows can't read HSF+

Rats. So plan B -- if I made a clone of the disk onto another hard drive, erased the SSD completely, then restored it (cloned it back), would :

- I still need to install Snow Leopard over again ?
- Install all my applications over again ?
- My Boot Camp sector remain untouched and bootable ?

As long as you:

Upgrade the firmware (I noticed a 10% increase in speed)
Disable the SMS
Clean permissions and zap the Pram
Change the sleep management to not using the ram to disk sleep option (use classic sleep mode)

Then your SSD will rock. I agree, the Intels have the best controller and really don't need the trim as of yet. the performance decline is only about 2% after a year of usage. You won't really notice it.

Just keep your drive about half full, use an external drive for storage. 40 gigs of storage is enough for me anyways. Your SSD will rock.
