Actually, I just got an extended battery for my Vibrant this week. I charged it up and put it in at 7AM yesterday. 25 hours later under moderate use (surfing the web, IM sessions, phone calls, checking weather, etc) I am at 49%. (a predicted) 48 hours with moderate use is ok with me.

The battery life in the iPhone4 is certainly better than the stock battery on Android phones, but being able to swap in a new a battery and boot in less than 30 seconds is an ok substitute (especially if you're on the move a lot and won't have access to chargers).

I love how Android users include standby time when talking "usage". I guess your phone cant seperate out standby and true usage?

I agree with you, for me Android just isnt even in the game. If I switch from iOS, it'll most likely be WinPhone7 or maybe WebOS. Android just feels like a cheap stitched-together indian knockoff OS, not to mention Google wants your user data and soul.

Completely agree. W7 phone's feel more complete in a way, more robust os, compared to google's cheap os and cheap, low quality materials for their phones

I definitely see W7 phones taking off as soon as the first wave of Nokia phones are released :)

Where did I mention standby time in my post? (Hint: I didn't. Learn to read.)

If I just let my phone sit there then yes, the stock battery lasts for days. $40%-50% of the battery usage is from the display.

My test of this new battery has been with moderate use.

maybe you can't digest facts unless apple puts them in an ad first?

You arent getting 20, 24, 48 or any other ridiculous figure of usage out of your phone. 7 Hours on the iPhone4, of actual usage, is the class leader. With an extended battery, you can get 14. Thats the top. Sprinkled in there is standby time.

Just in case you still arent getting it, 14 hours of usage would be screen-on internet surfing, talking, gaming, whatever, for 14 hours straight without once turning the screen off. That isn't what you are doing.

Let me put it one more way. Whenever your screen is actually on, you add up those actual minues all together to find usage. So if in a 1 hour period your phone is sitting there, you unlock it and send a text, then 20 minutes later you take a call for 5 minutes, then 20 minutes after that you send an email, you have 7 minutes of usage, and 53 minutes standby.

Hope it is now clear.

Hope it is now clear.

What is clear is that I spelled out a specific set of circumstances in my post, and then you (whether its because you can't grasp semantics or specifics, or because you were deliberately trolling) mentioned a different set of circumstances for battery usage.

Is iPhone4 the leader in this category? Yes, because the:
1. Screen is smaller than other smart phones
2. Screen is an LCD which draws less power than other types of screens
3. All the radios in the iphone are weak (wifi + cell)

I said as much already in my first post. What new information do you have to add? None.

Moderate usage is exactly as I described it. Moderate, everyday usage for myself. Even when the phone is idling it still seeps power for notifications, communication with the towers, and other resident processes like the clock, etc.

My phone is currently at 34% after a lunch consisting of angry birds, google maps searches, voicemails and youtube clips. a 15% drop in 5.5 hours with heavy use over a lunch hour that isn't bad for any smart phone.

Seeing as how it is my phone we are discussing, and how you haven't probably ever used a Vibrant for more than 2 minutes.... it is almost funny to watch you act like an authority (over the internet, no less) on what I am observing with my own two eyes.

I now understand...that you will not be able to grasp this concept. it's OK, we can't all get it. Glad you like your phone.

Great read OP.

I do hope the Nokia/Microsoft deal turns this into a three horse race. I'm looking forward to the WP7 devices by Nokia but I do worry they'll be very late to the game with the iPhone 5 in full swing and the next generation of Android handsets released. Looking at the announcements made at Mobile World Congress this year, its nearly all Android.

Its going to be very interesting for both iOS and Android in the coming years and I do hope that both platforms keep evolving and improving. I've seen Android grow into what it is now from Android 1.5 and its come on in leaps and bounds and iOS has had some great features added since I got my iPhone 3g back in the day.

Here's to the future!

26% and its 10:41PM. Showed someone 200 pictures on my phone from my Utah ski trip during dinner. Looks like I'm going to make it to 48 hours and then some.

Seems you dont want to understand because you didnt like the numbers that you saw him post. We get it, you dont like Android phones. Who cares!

48 hours total time the phone is on, not 48 hours usage. See? Wait what am I saying...you don't see. I've explained it clearly enough. Don't see why its hard to understand.

My droid has been unplugged for 10 hours and the battery is at 40%. I haven't used it much either. I'll have to plug it in in the next hour or so. Battery life is the worst part of my phone. I'm getting my wife an iphone next month so I should get a good comparison of battery life.

Windows 7 and Microsoft's billions to fund it will be around making it a 3 horse race especially with Nokia coming on board in 2012.

It's not a fact. There is a chance that Nokias owners meeting on May 3rd 2011 will change it's strategy.

Stephen Elop is like a trojan horse in Nokia. Finland's goverment has already made excellent effort to stop Elop plans. (just told them that they should pay EUR 100,000 for every single Nokia worker )

Symbian and MeeGo should be contiued!

The problem with Android is their possible patent infringements. One of the many reason Nokia went with Microsoft.

Another corrupted decision by Elop and Co..... It's the most successful OS for today. And it's still developing. This is the fact and it's obvious.

Things change very quickly on the mobile world.

Yeah!

Really?

That wasn't the government. It's the Finnish Pro trade union "demanding" Nokia pay each laid off worker an extra EUR 100,000 on top of severance, to help pay for reeducation.

I wonder what kind of jobs do they have that their current skill set is so limited.

Do you have a link for that. Also is that dollar amount standard for any laid off worker, regardless of who lays them off? If not that doesn't sound too legal for a government to single out one company and make them pay an exorbitant amount

Seriously? That's awful. My iphone unplugged but unused for 10 hours would barely show any battery loss at all (days I barely use it I'll have it barely show any battery usage at all. Course those are rare cause I'm an addict ;). But my usual use of it maybe gets it close to half use. I have to be really addicted to a game usually to get it more than half. And games suck battery quicker than anything else I find).

Seriously. I plugged it in about an hour after that post. It seems random. Sometimes it lasts longer than others, but for the most part it isn't good. I rooted the phone a week after I had it so I can't really compare it to a stock droid. For the most part it is fast and smooth in operation, but I really need a bigger battery.

Android definitely chews up more power than iOS.

Get an extended battery or a spare battery. Cheap chinese one from ebay. $15 for two batteries and a charger
