I don't see much difference in this and the "if you don't have an iPhone, well, you don't have an iPhone" marketing campaign.
 
The iPhone does have decent competition now so yes even though they are on top Apple needs to do some advertising too. Samsung advertised their way into a household name last year. The top dog can do a few ads too.
 
I saw this line too.

It is sad to see that Apple uses such a dirty advertising tactic, this is just not going to work for people who knows it. It is self deceiving. I would rather Apple just come out with something really good rather than playing words.

Apple has probably been more successful at advertising than any other company. Their approach of coming across like they are the best at everything seems to work.

The iPhone is still the most popular smartphone so they must be doing something right!
