16 meg Vram

That thing must be heavily hardware dependent if a faster CPU still can't handle it.

If you Don't enough vram the card has to dump and reload all the textures every frame. The same thing will happen if you try to play unreal tournament with hirez textures on a 6meg card. You have to count in FPM(Frames per minute)

I put that 3DOSX on my iBook just for the fun of it. It runs okay...but twisting and turning wheels around to find files is way too slow. Does anyone else notice when you pull down a Finder menu or pull the dock up from the bottom or launch a program like Appleworks, etc over it, the 3DOSX window displays a weird green behind the finder menu and the dock and does not go away until you click back on the 3DOSX window? Maybe I don't have the right graphics card...but I see someone is running it on a Pismo so this iBook should run it okay.

No way is it as fast or good as the OSX finder at least on my iBook. It does wow my Windows friends though...now what is up with the green shawdows that clutter behind the menus and even the program windows?....any ideas or has anyone put this on their Mac to play with it and have seen the same thing?

its your graphics card. they say on the website that it will run slow on a ati 128 rage card that is in the old powerbooks.

Acually amb the issue is the Rage 128 mobility cards, they only have 8 mb vid mem, and apparently the rage OpenGL hardware is lacking compared to the nvidia cards, the latest Ti and i Books have a related card, ie lower vram then the desktop cards, and I think that the overall problem is that that backgroung image is a freeking monster

out of the pool?

It seems to stop at about 15 steps. Does anyone else get this also? That was when I backed straight out.. it might do something different if you climbed switchbacking...?

Pretty fun program despite it's limitations!

I loaded 3DOSX on my TiPB, played around with it and then threw it away. Its an interesting app, but not all that useful.

There needs to be a more intuitive way for doing 3D file browsing, and these guys got started in the right direction. Hopefully it will evolve a little more.

3DOSX

it's nothing more than eye candy, and relatively functionless eye candy at that. That said, it is one of the coolest looking file browsers I've ever seen.

3DOSX is an app, and not a replacement for the Finder (yet). Therefore you are experiencing these problems. Though it will be interesting to see if they can find a way to replace the finder..... hmmmm...

3DosX

I installed this and added all the effects.

Fog, anti-ailiasing and whatever else there was... I forget.

I have a new iMac flat-panel 800Mhz.

It runs very smoothly and it integrates with a wheel-mouse, quite well.

I almost got out of the pool, but got scared... so I closed down some of the folders.

It definitely needs much work, but has promise.

Take care,
Quark

actually thats not true. i know for certain that the lombard from 1999 had the same card (as that is the computer i am on now. and i was pretty sure the wallstreet model (1998) also had the same card (another computer of mine.)

Are you sure it was a Rage 128 cause I am certain that it made its first appearance on the portable level with the Pismo cause I know people who both own a wallstreet and a lombard, both dont have it and both got theirs right before they were replaced with the later model. A previous ATI card is in the Lombard and Wallstreet, but in the case of your Lombard check out Apple System Profiler, you should have a video card that is 8 Mb, but its not the Rage 128 cause it was never offered on that model. Go here

thats the info on the lombard's specs.

Dude, it's 'going OFF like a frog in a sock'.

It's poor form to misrepresent daggy aussie jokes in a international forum... :)

Hey 'Lemon don't get sour...(sorry couldn't help myself) :D

Check out these specs here:
http://everymac.com/systems/by_processor/powerpc750.html

Says the Pismo was the first with the Rage 128...

Do you believe two websites?

Here's another cool lil' app....

And its quite fun too. It's called fuzz clock and available from versiontracker.

You can shut off your standard apple clock and replace it with a fuzzy time clock that displays the time as, for example "twenty past nine."

Pretty darn unique. And cool when cute girls look at your powerbook/tibook/ibook to get the time while you're working in coffeeshops.

:) :) :)

Thanks Rower. Lemon, I wasnt tried to sound mean about it, but its impossible for the Lombard to have come with the Rage 128, it only came with the 8 meg ATI Rage Pro LT. Sorry, either you dont have a lombard, or you are just misinterepting specs or something.

What is this? 3DOS tech support?

Are there any other interesting OS X Apps out there?

Disk Copy error 192

This error has been driving me nuts for over a month. Finally found the solution and am trying to spread the word as far and wide as possible! Please pass it on...

Everything in /System/Library/Extensions should be owned by root:wheel. I noticed a few of mine were not including IOStorageFamily.kext

From a Terminal window enter:
cd /System/Library/Extensions
sudo chown -R root:wheel *
