Good god that tabbed browsing is revolutionary! Kudos to Microsoft for coming up with such an original feature.

Oh, and how about that original, blue liquidy gel-type look that they've added to those revolutionary tab things!

For some reason, I feel like "Aqua-Man" just looking at it!

This reminds me of something very familiar...the gaudy colors, the lack of taste....wait, now I remember.

Crap.

It will look better on Vista

have you SEEN vista? i tried it for a bit and it is uglier than any other OS i've seen. it makes windows 1.0 with its garish colours, seem beautiful.

So, IE 7 is just a bloated, slower, uglier version of Firefox? Or did I miss something?

Leave it to Microsoft to take years to release something with Firefox's features and still not get it right.

Look at all the blank unused toolbar space in the middle. MS continues to make horrible usage of screen real estate. Now all they need is 10 or 15 toolbars so they take up more space than the web page you're trying to look at.

Only if the toolbars completely clutter the app, and ideally slow it down even more.

I gotta say I actually prefer a simple Windows logo over the lame "start" button. I feel insulted every time I see the "start" button.

I'll never forget how difficult it was for me to explain to my mother, back in the day, that to shut down the computer she had to go to "Start" first. As far as she was concerned, she was looking for an "End" button ...

I've been using IE7 since the Beta became available... I quite like it. Of course, it has a LOT of features that Firefox and Safari have had for a long time now, but it also has some features that Safari does NOT have. For example, the ability to restore your last set of tabs when you relaunch IE. I hate shutting down Safari because I always have to manually reopen all of my favorite tabs... IE7 eliminates that problem.

And I like the new UI... I don't think it's ugly. It's certainly nicer than IE6.

lest we forget that Apple was inspired to make the Mac OS after Xerox developed one first.

Everytime someone says this I want to scream.

As has been noted countless times in technology history books, and can be plainly seen in screenshots online, what Apple saw at Xerox was super extra really very crude. It did not have icons, menus, overlaping windows (i dont even think it had the capeability to show more than one window) etc... The concept was there, but the execution was aweful.

Apple did a lot of development to make the first consumer-ready GUI.

If you get the Saft plugin for Safari you can do what are you wanting.

I Need IE on my Mac :(

I dislike IE compared to the other browsers as well but I have one problem. My timecard for work is online and is only viewable in IE. Now they don't even make IE for OS X anymore. Any suggestions??? :(

My favorite browser has been firefox since I started using it. Some problems on Linux with it as far as Plugins, but using it at school I haven't have any problems because I can get all the plugins I want. My only issue is on some sites that still require Microsoft Windows Media Player, I am not sure what media player plugins to use (if it is possible) to get 100% off of Microsoft. Other than that, Firefox is a great browser.

Looking at IE7 screenshots, it sounds like it takes alot from Firefox and craps it up. I have never been a fan of Internet Explorer, because I have always felt it was too bulky (even IE 4 and I have IE 5.0 for the Mac on the two 5500's.. yuck.. I will have to find something else that is better one of these days, that have features that I want).

Safari reminds me a lot of Konqueror (and why shouldn't it, they have the same engines) and they are both really good browsers, but don't allow for the flexability that Firefox does and the speed. However, Safari wins in looks hands down.

IE 7, just like Vista has taken the look that people like (the Safari/OS X aqua look) and uses it to try to put in a good GUI. However, they junked it up up, made it bulky, and requires a graphics engine that is just too much for every day computers (atleast as we speak today).

I love how there isnt much good going on in anything but free open-source browsers like firefox and camino.

I agree that IE7 is ugly, and what's up with the rearranged button layout? IMO, it really sucks. I've been a firefox user for a few years ago, and I haven't even looked back since, I reccommend it to everyone still using that crap-ridden IE.

I love the open-source movement. As I learn to program (currently learning Java.. and I hope to expand from here) I hope to work on some open-source projects. Because I have been using linux for the past 4 years, I have seen Linux grow and many linux apps grow. I think the fact that there are so many open-source apps that run on OS X is such a great thing and will fuel OS X, because while you have a stable system you also have a great GUI and add in Open-Source Mac OS software and you have the divine system.

You can get Shiira browser and change your Agent string so that it says you're using IE6 on Windows (via preferences>Advanced>User Agent Name). Chances are it'll work even though its not real IE.

There's a way to do this in Safari too, but you'd have to look that up as it requires a hack.

In 1992, there was pretty much only Mozilla, wasn't there? I think Netscape came out in 1994 or 1995, right?

But I think Opera has had tabs for a long time. And Mozilla's main browser, predating Firefox, has been around for a while with tabs, too. And, I guess, several of the Linux browsers, such as Konqueror.

I don't know who's first, but I don't think it's Safari.

and mosaic!

My problem is Microsoft have ripped it off big time and try and hide it all by moving features around. IIRC, they have the buttons at the top, followed by tabs then the file menu. WTF!!

I'm looking at Firefox and Safari and I see File>Buttons>Tabs. It makes logical sense. The order IE7 uses means shooting from one place to another. I just hope it will allow you to customise the layout.

The ironic thing is that the online returns service we use for iPods, (a company called CRC who deals with Apple repairs in the UK), doesn't work in Firefox. I haven't tried it in Safari yet, (as it is an HP that is used for booking units in), but this leaves Apple returns going through IE. There are still sites that don't accept anything other than IE, so we are left with an ugly UI in order to access some sites. If MS are trying to make themselves look better with the Aero interface and such, why do they always do things like this so badly. They almost always then go onto say in one breath, it looks so much better and then after criticism, the looks aren't important.

Hey thanks a lot Shiira running as IE 6 Agent worked :)
