My 3G has been incredibly slow in my office building, we have a really weak WiFi signal on the 2nd floor and I have an interior office with no windows (not even near a window, haha). Internet is incredibly slow, I don't know if it's the office building or I'm just in a dead zone. I get 2-3 bars. It's a bit frustrating because it wasn't this slow on my old Droid, but overall anywhere else it's faster. Just wish that WiFi signal was stronger...

Moral of the story is you either need to kiss more ass or get on your knees to land a office with a window.

I'm not even on wifi. My signal shows all 5 bars for 3G. I just can't connect to the internet using 3G. It's not that it's slow, it just wont load at all.

Haha, yeah, not happening. I only started working here 2 years ago right out of school. I'm a long way off from a window. I share an interior office right now, and pulling "the girl card" doesn't get me that far with the guy engineers.

This is weird, I was just talking about this with two friends the other day. They both got 4S, upgraded from a 3GS and a 4, the 4S barely works in their buildings. Samething mentioned in this thread, usually at least 3-4 bars sometimes full yet safari doesn't work, calls barely connect after a few tries and usually drop. My 3GS has no problems in either of those buildings, and they both said their previous phones had no problems either. The one kept his 3GS and only uses it now, since the 4s has to stay at home. He's pissed he has this new phone that can barely use, it works fine at home.

Do you have to take elevators or have to park in a structure before going to your office? Perhaps it losses signal then when it regains it, it still thinks theres no signal, specifically data. I have the same problem on my 4 every so often on 3G and my fix for it was to put it in airplane mode for 10-15 seconds then take it off and internet would work afterwards.

I don't remember having any problems last week but I may have been busy at work and didn't even have time to surf the internet. I don't remember haha.

I work in NYC so I usually just walk to work, so there shouldn't be a problem with losing service.

I tried making a few calls yesterday in my building and it took 3 tries. On the third try it worked but the call was dropped within a few minutes. I called back and was dropped immediately.

I really hope my only option for a fix isn't to just reactivate my 3GS and return my 4S.

Just tried the airplane mode thing and nothing.

Did you see my post above? There has to be an issue with the 4S and something interfering as others have mentioned the same. Previous iPhones were fine, so something is different in the 4S that seems to fizzle the signal out when in a building.

My friends have the same exact problems, like if they go to make calls it takes a couple tries before connecting and when it finally does the call is usually dropped quickly.

are the 3gs users on 3g or edge? that could be the difference.

Pretty sure it was on 3g.

Yeah, so is there anything we can do or that apple can do to fix this?

who's your carrier?

i had a 3GS on AT&T earlier this year, went to HTC and now back to 4S. my 4S is the best phone i had so far. antenna is awesome in and outside. still on AT&T and now the iphone works inside elevators as well. all the previous iphones had crappy reception, 4S does not

At&T.

My friend just called me and the call dropped within 30 seconds. Tried calling him back and nothing.

This is starting to piss me off.

If they are on 3G as well then it might be your phone. It doesn't make sense for yours not to work if it's the same network. Just try a network reset and see if that helps.

We all have AT&T, my 3GS works fine when I'm in either building as once in awhile I'll meet clients in each. Their previous 3GS and 4 worked fine as well... but both 4S are pretty much unusable in either building. Both have restored, reset network settings etc... nothing changed. It's holding me back from getting an 4S as you can find others with issues like that online, and I've heard from 3 other 4S friends about their issues in buildings since they all work in buildings.

Guess I'm sticking with my 3GS or Android, as if I open a new office I don't want to be stuck with a phone that's unusable indoors. We have a 4 as well but gf usually uses it though she has a new BB Bold from work.

With others having this same issue there is something in the 4S that causing or allowing something to interfere with data signals. I mean why would the 3GSs and 4's work fine, and the 4S don't?

Yeah, I agree that it has to be something in the 4S. I'm going to try a restore this weekend if I can find the time and see if it works Monday. I tried to go to apple yesterday after work, but of course the place was a mad house and there weren't any appointments for a few days.

Yeh it's holding me back from getting an 4S... I don't want to end up with a phone that has the same issues as buddies 4S's in buildings. So it's either stick with the 3GS or go Droid but don't want to lose our grandfathered in unlimited plan.

Yup. I'm seriously thinking about reactivating my 3GS. This is ridiculous.

Internet has been working like a charm for the last 2 hours. Hopefully it stays this way.

Could it be because the iPhone 4S cannot turn off 3g and switch to edge? I do not have an iPhone but i do work in NYC and use a ATT blackberry. In my office i lose 3g service and have to switch to Edge for anything to work. Just a thought.

I had full 3G service but just coudln't access the internet using my phone for some reason. After about 2 weeks with 0 internet, it started workign yesterday afternoon and has worked all day today so far. Hopefully the problem is now fixed.
