Most new phones just have a small hole punch out for the camera, not a notch and definitely not a whole dynamic island. If you think about it. Most new phones have this “notch” but is there anyone who has implemented it in a better way?
Others are innovating? Like who? What did they innovate that’s not pretty much a gimmick?
And frankly everyone is free to spend their money where they feel they’re getting innovation. If it’s Samsung, Google, Motorola heck even BlackBerry. It’s your money, use it where you feel you get your moneys worth. No one’s forcing you to spend it on Apple.
just make it similar to the bezel on iPad pro, make screen uniform rectangle like just about any other display screen isI'm usually not a naysayer, quite frankly I don't know how this is any better then shoving the notch as far up into the bezel as possible, minimizing the "notification area" space. Its novel, I'll give Apple that. I don't hate it. I just don't understand why the notch being further into screen space is appealing.
Also smudging seems like a potential issue.
Maybe people just like it.It's amazing how people are cheering Apple making the notch bigger and moving it into the display area.
The only thing revolutionary about the dynamic island is Apple's talent in selling it. It proves the reality distortion field is still alive and well I suppose.
I disagree with that assessment. While I never loved the notch, it didn't really bother me either as it was an improvement over the larger top and bottom bezels. I think this looks nice and is an improvement over the notch because it's integrating it into the design and makes it more useful. It's amazing how people are cheering Apple making the notch bigger and moving it into the display area.

Like Steve Job once said, we must be holding our phones wrong! 😂It does not, that’s my point 🙂
I understand it would take a lot of money and engineering to develop a screen with a front facing camera with the smaller real estate possible. But it’s been done many times. If you think about it. Most new phones have this “notch” but is there anyone who has implemented it in a better way?

It is ABSOLUTELY ugly. When I’m on my phone I won’t want this widget dangling in my eye shot. I want immersion. Not distractions. Why is absolutely NOBODY talking about the fact that it will move many important actions (its almost like mini multitasking menu) to the absolute top of the screen, which is absolute nightmare from usability standpoint. Couple years ago main idea behind Samsungs OneUI was to keep everything that needs to be touched on a lower half of a screen, it ended up to be a big success, people really like OneUI. Now Apple, self-proclaimed usability king is selling something that will be a usability nightmare as its biggest feature. Good luck using that with one hand. Sorry but Apple instead improving things, is making it much worse. I understand that they still dont have tech to hide the notch, but this is textbook example of "its not a bug, its a feature" mentality.
This seems to be built into how the phone notifies us, so I don't think it will be a gimmick. I think it looks good and seems to be making use of previously dead space from the notch. The Dynamic Island reminds me of the "Touch ID" alot. I'm shocked tho because no one was expecting this. Hopefully, it's not just the gimmick.
That’s why apple will say “ just wait till you see what we have in store for you next”You guys do understand that this is only a cover up feature for the remaining punch holes on the screen, right? It's just a clever illusion that uses this forced black void morphing into something minimally useful... But as someone already pointed out here, this will leave smudges on the lens and for the bigger phones its a pain to reach this area one handed...
I was thinking the very same thing! Brilliantly implemented.Seriously reminds me of the iPhone 4 introduction, where it had leaked a couple months before with the lines on the side, and everyone said “Apple would never do that, that’s not like them at all”.
And then everyone was completely blindsided when Steve got up on stage, and said the exact same thing.
“What’s this?
Some have even said this doesn’t seem like Apple.
What are these lines in this beautiful stainless steel band.
Well, it turns out there’s not just one of them, but three of them.
It turns out this is part of some brilliant engineering, which actually uses the stainless steel band as part of the antenna system”.
That was one of the coolest moments, and even after the issues, and all of that, I still think it’s absolutely brilliant.
And the new dynamic island got a very similar reaction from me.
You don’t have to like it.This is what happens when there is no alternative. You have to like whatever is handed to you. Plus you don't want to get beaten up by saying anything negative, especially if you're a professional reviewer receiving free eval units.
It’s not just a camera under there on an iPhone. If it only had a camera, I’d understand what you mean. Most new phones just have a small hole punch out for the camera, not a notch and definitely not a whole dynamic island.
The notch is not what Apple is about. The triumph of mediocrity. Steve was really missed yesterday.
I'm sure the reverse would also be true if it was possible to build something like that. Because someone likes the UI of iOS better than the alternative doesn't make the latest phone running it the "best design ever".You don’t have to like it.
Now that there are android strong enough to emulate iOS over top of an android phone I think this whole argument is mute.
Buh-bye, Static Peninsula!
Hello, Dynamic Island!
