AppleTV anyone?

Has anyone considered that "something in the air" just might be referring to the new features (movie rentals via iTunes, true HD capacity) for the AppleTV? Much fuss has been made of Apple signing deal with the studios...
Still think a new ultra-portable is coming, but AppleTV needs a boost more than Apple's computer business, and the new content may be just what it needs...

Calling a computer the "Macbook Air" is inconsistent with Apple branding. They wouldn't purposefully invite the confusion of having an Airport line of products, and an Air line of notebooks. To the uninitiated, would Airport work with a Macbook Pro? Or would you need a Macbook Air to use that? It doesn't line up with branding consistency, and Apple is all about that. Also, it's a trite product name that would have been clever in 1993. Good guesses, though!

This is off topic - but heard Netflix is lifting stream limits

Most netflix subscribers will now be able to watch unlimited hours of movies per month online. This might be in response to Apple's rentals. I heard this on avsforum.com

The biggest news here that people seem to be missing is that not even Apple Engineers use iChat!

I will say that AirBook is a much cooler name than MacBook Air. AirBook to me sounds like a futuristic, Minority Report type interface. I'm just trying to rationalize a good reason as to why I might need such a computer. ;)

I just read on TUAW - Apple iTunes Rentals

Had this been mentioned at MacRumors?

I guess this post is a bit worthless amongst the rest these last few days anyway...

Bummer - mines at 94% healthy with 139 charge cycles...

Yea, 1 year warranty is bad. The original battery failed the last month of the warranty and the replacement battery (black) took a month to ship. I got 3rd party hardware protection for my Macbook but it won't cover battery life. I got a replacement from fastmac.com, but lucky me, defective. Got 50% charge but wouldn't charge or discharge. Also it didn't really fit in the Macbook and the battery status LEDs were the wrong way around. They're sending a replacement but it's taking long again...

I'm happy with my iPod batteries tho. I treat my G2 iPod badly (got a few dents already) but it's still working as is should. It only crashes half way when opening an long (1+ hour) podcast that has not been listened to yet. After rebooting it's fine.

I think that "something in the Air" may be referring to rentals of movies, and maybe .Mac intergration with the iPhone. Maybe there will be an ultralight macbook released as well, but don't we usually see SOME evidence of something concrete by this time. If nothing else, at least a blurry photo of something in an elevator. but this time, nothing.... nada. Maybe they have found all the leaks and have efficiently and effectively plugged them. But it just seems too quiet.

MacBook Air is definitely retarded, I'm thinking wireless electricity, look up clips on youtube and apple products are featured in the top 2 clips

Wireless electricity not quite there yet

MacBook Air is definitely retarded, I'm thinking wireless electricity, look up clips on youtube and apple products are featured in the top 2 clips

through a conductive plate maybe as in what www.wildcharge.com makes. It could be built in But technology like what www.powercastco.com makes that can light up a light bulb across the room with no wires I don't believe makes enough juice to power a full laptop. It's possible though. I've been putting the wireless electrice idea out there since page 4 of this thread.

As I stated before as well not having the name macbookair.com registered to apple means nothing. None of their products has their own domain names. They are all under subdirectories under apple.com. If you were to type in the names of apple products in a browser just about all of the sites are just individual people that bought the names with no connection to apple.

TO ALL THAT HATE THE NAME

What other name would you have thought of? There are so many people who say that they hate the name then they say it "deters" them from buying it... then low and behold THEY BUY IT.

Sheep.

Well, personally I don't really think that "There's something in the Air" is referring to a name on a product. I highly doubt that it would be the name of a slim macbook. Apple is tries to compete with CES every-year to steal the head turns for the most part and I don't think a mac portable is anything special that they would name their entire show after. Unless its something really unexpected and cool like some type of next generation device. I mean... If this is the "Big" thing that Steve Jobs has to talk about at the keynote then it would be the most boring keynote ever! I mean, I can hear it now... "Here's how thin it is, here is the small flash hd size, here is how much battery life and here is the pricetag". That doesn't take up that much time... surely he has something big under his black longsleeves. And the name "Macbook Air" would be just stupid unless there is more reasoning behind it. ALOT MORE!

So, I think they are just meaning the "term" (somethings in the air) and are going to release another brand new groundbreaking product. Maybe even something that is not in the Home computer/Music Player/Phone/Home TV field. Maybe they are entering ANOTHER market... (doubt it but hey...)

Its really far-fetched but what are the possibilities of Apple purchasing a satalite (or space on one)? Something like sirius satalite has that now lets you watch tv on it? I can imagine something like that for the ipod/iphone/apple tv and networks. Download anywhere you go. Maybe even sometype of satellite internet option? Its crazy but I wonder if its something they could/would do ever? It would be "something in the air" right...LOL.

Sure, though I think there is a difference. The name macbook is fine in terms of what it describes, a mac notebook...putting the word air is a description of it's weight or thinness is ludicrous considering that people mostly associate things with the word "air" in it as something to do with flying.

Well, there is ‘Nike Air’ which is associated with being light so you can run faster (rather than being able to do a superman), so ‘macbook air’ to mean it is ‘light’ wouldn’t be such a ludicrous proposition.

Apple would be much better off naming it mini or nano, considering those words are strongly associated with things that are small and with Apple itself due to the success of the iPod versions.

Agreed. :) I much prefer it to be called Macbook Nano or even just Mac Nano (or does this sound like an update to the Mac Mini?), but perhaps this is because I already have two iPod nanos and have taken to the ‘nano’ branding.

Anyway, I really don’t care what it is called as long as an aluminium intel notebook is released - preferably in a choice of colours like the 3G iPod nano range. That would be sweet! To move on from 5 years with my Powerbook G4 would be heartbreaking (we have been through a lot together) but it’s got to be done. I don’t think I will ever get such great value and use from a computer again.

ROLL-ON MACWORLD... AND ROLL-ON WITH THOSE NOTEBOOKS, STEVIE J. HURRY UP!! 5 YEARS WAS SIMPLY WAY TOO LONG TO WAIT.
