The analogies just keep getting worse and worse.
It'd be more like a car manufacturer cutting back engine back way down because the brakes are slowly getting worn. You'd have absolutely no idea why and the manufacturer says absolutely nothing about it and just plays it off as the car getting old.
Only Apple did it to devices that are still under warranty and while the batteries still passed Apple's diagnostic tests.
