It's definitely an annoyance. The content it sees on the TV app on the Apple TV is a subset of the content on the "Computers/iTunes" app where you can see everything on iTunes. There should be no discrepancy.

Also it should be irrelevant how we choose to categorize our content. We do it for certain reasons. I've resorted to placing much of my personal content into TV Shows because it functions like customized folders.

I have a very large collection of old DVD and BluRay content that I've ripped and imported into iTunes and I synch them down to both iPhone and iPad on a regular basis (I travel a lot and take media with me). I haven't encountered this issue at all. I'm not sure why some people are but I can personally attest that it is very possible to have this work as expected under the new TV app.

As to the previous poster commenting about Plex, I tried it out with Plex Pass for a couple months (the trailers seemed like a neat feature) but for whatever reason it was never able to poke a hole through my firewall. I probably could have resolved the issue with more effort but after tinkering off and on over a month I decided it just wasn't worth my time. I don't have a very complicated network topology either and have other products that are able to work with it well.

I had this issue as well on the beta. Just go download the Videos app from the App Store and hide/delete the TV app and it'll work fine!
You can't download the videos app can you ?

If you know how to do please surely post

Not sure what Apple is up to but I can't see imported audio books either in the iBooks app. The search function finds it but it won't play. They need to get there stuff together.

I had the same problem, chatted with support and got nowhere. I was able to fix it by going to the today section by swiping right from the opening screen and adding the widget for the TV app. For some reason, this allowed the TV app to access movies in the library on my Mac mini.

It looks like they deleted it. I'm on the beta still so I downloaded it before and it's remained on my device

I consider myself to be fairly tech savvy: I'm young-ish, a full stack web developer, a web and app designer, and photographer. That out of the way, I felt like it took me entirely too long to figure out the new TV app. First weird thing: movies are in the TV app. Ok, moving along. I was trying to download some local copies of some movies since an ice storm was coming and the power might go out. I figured out how to download some, but then my iPad got full. For some reason there was already a movie downloaded. Ok, not a big deal, I'll just remove it like I always do from the Settings app. Well this movie wouldn't show up in there (normal iTunes movie). Had to Google around for a bit before learning that you have to tap the label that says "Downloaded" to remove the download. Really intuitive software guys!

As for the app itself, it feels clunky and over populated with crap I don't care about—much like Apple Music. It also drives me crazy how it doesn't support some streaming providers to show content. I'm never going to use this thing if it doesn't show me everything I've got to watch. Single sign on is also not supported by everyone, and then some providers only support certain apps (like DirecTV Now hardly supports any, and also pisses me off because only certain markets get local content). The whole thing for me right now is a mess. Ok about to give up again and just watch YouTube, although even that is getting complicated with Red and everything else bundled into that.

The TV App is just as the AppleTV OS a pieces of junk. I feel kind of poor for the team in charge of.

Has anyone else has the problem where you even if you turn portrait lock off it still acts as though it's locked? This among other annoyances is making me regret updating the os

Yes there is a software bug which I wrote about in the iOS 10 forum. I have videos manually loaded on to my device via iTunes that only show up in the app when airplane mode is turned on. I was in contact with Apple support for several days providing screen shots and diagnostics information. In the meantime I downloaded the 3rd party app Infuse (which is great btw) and moved the TV app to a garbage folder.

Like we have had to do all too frequently over the past few years; just switch away from Apple's software and use something else (I've had very good luck with Stream to Me and Serve to Me, and no longer use iTunes, Music, etc. etc. for anything at all other than occasionally ripping a CD or manually managing iThing backups and media). That solution also supports playback on various media-players outside the Apple ecosystem (for example, a PS3 will find the Serve to Me server on your network and work properly with it). Unlike Plex, Stream to Me / Serve to Me is extremely simple to setup (it also lacks some of the advanced features, but overall I've certainly been very happy with it). Oh, and VLC will also pick up Stream to Me servers.

I hope that someday those currently running Apple will figure out that the worse their software gets, the more we move away from it. The more we move away from it, the less incentive we have to stay with Apple hardware. The less we stay with Apple hardware, the less we recommend Apple hardware to other and the less visibility Apple hardware has. It's a vicious cycle they can put a stop to by getting their software usability, features, and QA back up to what it used to be...

Example is the Photo's App on the desktop Not the best.

This is old news. I updated both my 6s and iPad mini 4 to 10.2 last month. I could see and play my "home videos" on the 6s, but not on the iPad mini 4. One workaround was disabling the wifi which made my videos appear. Not a great workaround so I just decided to wait for 10.2.1 to fix it. Then shortly after New Year's Day, my videos just appeared again on my iPad mini 4 and I could play them again without disabling the wifi. I think it's an issue involving the syncing/connection with Apple servers that goes on every time you use the TV app. With some people, the problem eventually gets "fixed" as it did with me. I do miss the videos app.

Who is using Apple TV any more? I bought mine when it came out and used it like twice.

I used it more than twice, probably a couple of dozen times since December 2015 when I got it which is not much considering how much I paid for it. My Roku 3 on the other hand gets almost daily attention and I'm considering replacing it with a Roku Premiere+ to compliment my new 4K Sony. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'll get a 4K Apple TV when Apple finally decides to release one, based on the low usage my current Apple TV 4th gen gets.

What's even better is over here in europe (Belgium) we don't even get the TV App, much like the news app it just isn't anywhere to be found, so now I have no way to find videos......

I also refuse to put my phone in another country (settings), as this messes up my music far too much.

Why didn't Apple bring out new streaming focussed apps and leave what they had intact?! Why not leave Music and Videos as what they were, then have another app called Apple Music and Apple Video.

Instead we have apps called Music where my 90GB of music is shoved aside, recommendations that don't suit me and a TV app that shows Movies too.

They pride themselves on logic, quality and a premium experience. None of this is.
