I serve as technical support for a wide range of people, and I seem to be getting an influx of people running various types of 10.x.x having battery issues in regards to the phone shutting off between 40% and 50%. The phones are iPhone 6 and 6s. All users report this happening after the upgrade to iOS 10.

I have noticed this on my personal device. It died at 49% once!

    Has anyone noticed this issue?

Battery health of all the devices are good? I ask that, because it does not sound normal. I have not experienced a single device shut off above 1%.

iOS 10.1.1 is out. I don't know if it fixes that bug, but I suggest you try it on at least one of the phones and see if it helps.

I can do a quick phone call tomorrow to Apple and we if they can run an offical test on my battery, but last time it came back fine.

Also, if it's in Low Power Mode, it does not happen.

I'll update my personal device to 10.1.1, but in trouble shooting someone else's iPhone with the same problem, they were on 10.1.1.

Do you have a Mac? You can check the devices with Coconut Battery. It's more accurate that Apple's testing because they use an average of 2 week data and it doesn't always show failing batteries.

I do have a Mac. I'll download it in the morning and give it a gander. Thanks!

Awesome good luck. It's not in the App Store but a quick google will find the app.

If the phone has a hardware issue just replace it or get a new iPhone

I am out of warranty for my device. And I can't "afford" a new iPhone.

Replacing the battery is much cheaper than the phone.

Yes, I could. But I don't want too and would rather have Apple do it. But I don't think it's a hardware issue.

    I'm also caseless :)

Sorry for the bump, but same problem here and an Apple Advisor has confirmed today that iOS 10 (10.1.1 included) has "problems" dealing with the battery. She said that there is no solution but wait for a fix on the next update...

Same here with my wifes 6s. Shuts down at around 25-30%

EXCEPT last night. I told her to run it down until it died.
She came home from around 5:00pm and it was at 22%
It made its way down to 1% and she was able to use it for and hour and half at 1%
It was time for bed and I'm not sure if it shut off or not.
    Weird.

What type of 'problems' though? Is it increased drainage, is it inaccurate reporting of percentage remaining?

Both, actually. We were discussing about the 6S's performance last night (>30% standby drain. Shutdown at 9% and reached 25% just after been plugged in). She said that they are known problems, working on a fix. Also pointed out that setting up as new won't help.

    Same here.
2 days ago my iPhone 6 shut off after 3 photos.
    Battery was fully charged overnight.
I saw a battery percentage of 93 before shut down.
When I plugged it to the power bank, it showed 74%.
At the hotel after disconnecting from the power bank it showed a short while after that 33%.
It was very cold outside -4 degrees Celsius.

    This was the worst case.

Most cases I get a shut off at 40% or 50% mostly when shooting photos.

Funniest case was a a cool morning we were shooting photos me with the 6 and my girlfriend with her 6S and after a few photos both phones shut off LOL (not so funny I know).

I managed to switch on my iPhone 6 through Power+On button pushed together only to see how my battery went in no time from 84% to 1% and the phone shut off again.

    Only a powebank helps.

I checked both batteries online with Apple support and the 6 battery is 85% OK while the 6S 95%.

So it MUST be iOS10.whatever :(

iOS 10.2 Public Beta 3 since yesterday.

Today morning (warm 9 degrees Celsius) I shot a few photos and even a panorama photo. I even did a heavy edit on the panorama photo with my iPhone 6 Photos app. This usually kills my battery. But still 97%! WOW

I hope they solved the problem.

But still after the update yesterday my iPhone 6 showed 6% battery. After connecting to the charger it jumped to 43% :-/ Still not everything alright :-/

My iPhone 5s dies on the same percentage. When I charge it, it shows the remaining battery percentage before it died.
