Instead of polishing emojis I'd love Apple to polish the new version of their Maps with the same degree of attention and enthusiasm!
What likely involves mainly a few designers (perhaps even mostly interns) as far as emojis go likely doesn't scale to something beyond that, like actual functional/infrastructure type of changes.

Nothing new in mail, calendar, oh and those music controls on lock screen that are 80% of the time unresponsive, but hey, at least we have new emoji and keyboard sounds.

How do you feel Maps needs polishing? I think it's great right now.

Why would something new in mail or calendar really show up in beta 4?

It's Apple, they can have as many designers as they want working on any aspect of their products, I just don't see why they choose to focus on something so trivial as emojis vs actually improving the usability existing product (Maps) that Cook personally promised to work on until it meets Apple customer's high expectations (or something like this). As it is now in iOS PB 2, design-wise Maps have taken the turn for the worse, imho. I am not here to bash Apple, I was just using Maps a lot for driving in iOS 9 and would love continue doing so in iOS 10, so would like them to be improved.

Compare the driving modes in iOS 9 and 10 and see how tricky it has become in iOS 10. Some examples include zooming in/out transitions and zooming scales on roads and roundabouts, as well as a much more flatter 3D effect than in iOS 9. It is not just purely aesthetic, it is a question of being maximally similar to what you perceive out of the car window. If you see a road rather flat in front of you as you drive, you should have a very similar effect reproduced in Maps, else our brains take extra time to "translate" the difference between the two, so more lag and destruction while driving. TomTom & Waze handle it much better, especially the latter. However, Apple Maps still offers the smoothest rooting, without any unnecessary bends just to save 3 seconds as Waze does. I would really like to continue using Maps for driving, it just looks counter-intuitive to me right now. And this is switching from Maps in iOS 9.

That's the thing, having some of those designers working on something like emoji doesn't prevent them from working on something else--it's not this or that, it's this and can very well be that and that and that in addition to it.

Can anyone on the beta take a screenshot of the shark and Bacon emoji? Thanks.

The number of designers is not important, their priorities are. ;) So far, however, we see them tweaking less important elements (emojis) while other, more important bits, that could really use more polishing, e.g. Maps & Music, remain unaddressed.

Sigh. People treating a beta revision as if it's a major update. All the big things have already changed, now it's time for the smaller things.

Under Battery it now gives you suggestions to help with your battery life. I had my brightness turned up and went into the battery screen. There's a section called "Battery Life Suggestions" and it had a shortcut labeled "Reduce Brightness". Clicking it took me to "Display and Brightness". Once you correct the issue the "Batter Life Suggestions" section disappears.

I don't get Apple here. Everything in iOS is flat to the point of being unintuitive as hell, but the emojis, meant to be typographic symbols to represent emotions still look like weird crystal balls from the aqua era. Now there are many people bragging about Apple being the only company that takes design as seriously, but decisions like that really make me wonder how serious that exactly is. I don't use emojis at all and I think they are stupid and unnecessary, but whenever I see them those symbols stick out horribly.

3D emoji ? They still look ok

The only thing i would go for is Dark mode..

I've even gotten used the flat look after using Exchange 2013 for ages... but i do hate Apple new look their doing ... eg bulky buttons, intro to control center (why do users need this?) buttons are self explanatory...

aha... When i touch Airplane mode, my roof isn't exactly gonna take off.

I can't stand the new control center. Why do I have to swipe to get music controls when they fit just fine before?

And those who are working on emojis might not be the ones who would be working on something like the Maps or Music service.

It seems that Apple decided there were too many controls to display and too many different unrelated things to display together that it made more sense to split them up so that more space could be used for them and they would be grouped with other related things.

Apple should really let people choose. I never saw any complaints about too many options in control center.

And it would appear with beta 4 that you get the space / backspace sounds even if Keyboard Clicks are disabled in settings!
Hopefully that's just a bug of some sort.

I hope it's related to the addition of waterproofness to the iPhone.
How would that be?

Do you get to know where your car is parked ?
That has been there for a few betas now.

I recall that kind of thing showing up in iOS 9 as well.

Well, they haven't allowed customizations of Control Center (so far).

Well I think they decided that flat all around was "too" flat and are trying to find a good medium. iOS 7 was FLAT and a lot of people complained. Although slight changes in 8 and 9 it was still kind of slim all around and I think Apple is trying to have software that works on all devices (although my 6+ text was legible for those still on 4's etc. probably had a harder time since it's less real estate, idk) I'm thinking that like iOS 7, which was a major change, 10 will be the first iteration and it'll get more aesthetically pleasing in 11, 12 etc. I'm just grasping for straws here lol but I do agree that although the "shade" effect on the emojis isn't inherently bad it does seem to go against the design language slightly.

Still convinced dark mode is coming with the next iPhone when (and if) they do OLED screens. We're all holding out for it though lol

And I think the intro is for common users. You'd be surprised how little people really understand how and what they can do with their iPhones so I just think Apple is trying to cover all bases.

I think this goes with the design language for "larger album art, etc." and since it's not necessarily a "control" setting (i.e. flashlight, airplane mode) they probably thought it made more sense to standalone.
