iOS 11.2 Beta 4 Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

Beta 4 major youtube bug now has to go back to 11.1.2 now will be weeks to get beta 5 how did this happen it ahould be an issue with youtube maybe

And it won’t be fixed because it’s not a bug. I’m using the iPhone X and even if I use the AssistiveTouch to simulate a virtual home button, there’s still half a second of delay too. See for yourself:


You want immediate response? Get an iPhone X with its swipe up gesture to exit apps. It’s instantaneous. Or go for Android.

That half a second delay with the virtual home button has been there forever. However on iOS 10 the response was instant on the iPhone 7 solid state home button. Which is why it's a bug. iOS 10 didn't have that delay.

I already bought the X to get rid of the issue.

Again, it’s not a delay but designed to function this way. At least that was the point Prabas was making.

I seriously hope you didn’t buy an iPhone X JUST to alleviate your frustration with what you perceive as a major bug

Multiple reasons actually. The battery life on the 7 Plus frustrates me as I charge it twice a day when it used to last 1.5 days on iOS 10. I got caught with that on my iPhone 6 because when I upgraded to iOS 9 I was charging it thrice a day and it destroyed my battery and I ended up paying a 100 bucks a few months ago to get it replaced. If I keep charging my 7 Plus at the rate I currently charge it at the battery will be destroyed next year and I would rather avoid paying yet another 100 bucks to replace the battery for a 2 year old phone.

Then there is the home button delay which everyone makes fun of. For me it takes the fun out of using my phone. I have an Android phone and an iOS 10 iPad with me and on both the response is instant. When I reach for the 7 Plus it keeps making the transition jarring as if there is input lag. I detest this new home button to the point I don't mind paying for a new phone to get it resolved.

Secondly I am curious about FaceID because the iris scanner on the Note 8 doesn't work properly with glasses and I want a flawless unlock method for my phone. I want to take it for a spin and see if it's any better. Then there is the oled screen which I have always wanted and fast charging support.

Only problem is the screen size. Hated it at the store. I will keep the & Plus in my drawer and exclusively use the X in my workflow during the return period and see if it bothers me. If it does I will send it back and just tolerate the slower home button till next year which is when they release the X Plus.

Have you failed to read what another guy said? It’s for the software to differentiate between a return to home screen or a double click for multitasking. If it’s a bug, I don’t see why Apple will ‘engineer’ the bug into their latest flagship device.

Which is why I said that if the delay is necessary to differentiate between the 2 clicks then why doesn't iOS 10 have the delay?. I have a device running iOS 10 with me right now and the home button is instant on it and it has no trouble distinguishing a double click and a single click.

The 8 is just an afterthought and a filler phone.Its not a flagship. Apple didn't even advertise it for their gift guide on their website where the X is front and center. Heck they even gave the wallpapers of the 8 to the 7 users which has never happened before iirc. They won't waste resources rectifying the home button on the 8 because all iPhones next year lack home buttons and better to spend resources optimising for the new form factor rather than the legacy one.

The X is the flagship and Apple wants to show everyone how much faster the gestures are and the home button iPhones have to suffer as a result.

No official word but if you search it on Google you will see a lot of sources are reporting it. The last update for the Youtube app was for X support. No idea if it fixes the issue but I've been using Safari at the moment.
 
Had issues when getting my X, lot of apps crashing, phone rebooting, horrid battery. Restored twice.. An Apple genius friend told me to upgrade to Beta 2. Things actually felt smooth for once minus a few beta hiccups that weren't troublesome and I didn't care about. For once I felt at ease and happy to use my X. Battery life was also stellar. Updated to Beta 3, much different story for me.

Updated to Beta 4 on another fresh restore yesterday -- it got even worse. It was like 11.0 all over again. I did a restore and backup to 11.1.1 through iTunes this time, my phone is now flawless. Battery is 45 minutes short of my 8 Plus (which is the best battery I've ever had on a phone) and there is almost no lag.

I truly am skeptical about updating to iOS 11.2 when it's released. I'm not sure why there were so many issues with 2-3 major core features -- or why I had to do so many restores and updates back and forth to get my phone to function properly. My X is now working flawlessly and my battery is fantastic.

I really love some of these Betas and trying them out, specially when they work better than the official firmwares. But I had enough and I'm thankful for whatever made my phone start working like it was supposed to on 11.1.1
