How dare they promise Airplay 2 "soon" at WWDC 2017 and still not have it released a year later. Oh and it actually was present for a while.

Not sure what the aim of this major point release release is really considering everything significant has been dropped. It should be in a minor point release IMO (i.e. 11.2.6).

You seem to be ignoring the rest of the changelog. There are more than enough changes to justify a x.1 update.

Icloud messages has been great on the betas so why remove it thats only thing im happy about with this update

“Allows you to return to the keyboard with a simple touch after the dictation.”

Thats it.

This is the best update in iPhone’s history.

And the only “feature” I was dying for (yeah, they turned it back to the way it was on iOS 10; “tnx”).

What is sad is that iOS12 will probably be what iOS11 should have been. It feels like each year the software gets buggier and buggier which is horrible considering they have a massive amount of beta customers now participating that should give crash data which leads to quicker stable releases.

The problem is that 99% of beta users don't bother reporting an issue. If they do experience it, they head to a forum like Reddit or MR and complain. That does NOTHING to help Apple. Apple needs real data. They can't fix an issue they don't know exists. The beta has a super simple app built right in for reporting those issues and yet people don't use it.

Far too many also assume someone else will report it for them. It's like passing an accident and assuming someone else will call it in but then no one does because everyone just assumed someone else did it and they don't bother to do so themselves. Apple also needs to see MULTIPLE reports. The more the better. If they get 1 report, it's not a priority and may just be a one off. If they get 10, maybe there's something to look into. If they get 100 then it's an issue and if they get 1000 or 10000, then it becomes a far larger issue and gets priority.

Remember how big "Bendgate" was? People acted like everyone had a phone that was bent. In reality, less than 12 people had reported it actually happening to them. That shows how we assume problems are bigger than they really are. The same happens with these bugs.

You don't have iCloud messages now so no harm no foul. It may never come. I understand it would make life easier but we a are managing now without it.
It is when they’re wasting valuable development resources on this Business iMessage and ARKit junk instead of practical, useful features that we actually care about. I guarantee you no one is ever going to use this business iMessage thing. It’s a complete waste just like Game Center, and it’ll likely be quietly removed in iOS 14.

Messages in iCloud should’ve been done years ago. Even Windows Phone had an equivalent SMS sync feature...four years ago. It’s shameful that despite being announced at WWDC last year it still keeps getting dropped in .1, .2, and now .3. It should’ve been in .0.

How is it possible that the wealthiest company on the planet can't hire and retain enough software engineers to get something like AirPlay 2 ready for public release within a reasonable amount of time?

I invested in one HomePod believing that AirPlay 2 would be in iOS 11.3. As much as I love the HomePod, it is growing increasingly difficult to be an Apple believer. WTF, Apple? HIRE MORE PEOPLE and get it done! Maybe give fewer stock options to the executives and spend the money on additional software engineers!

Suddenly, Sonos is looking attractive again. <sigh>

I sure do miss Steve Jobs. He'd make it happen even if everyone that worked for him hated him for it.

They have over 3000 open positions in the US right now. There either is not enough skilled people here, or it's too expensive to live in the valley... or both. (its both)

Well that's disappointing...

Was really excited about messages in the cloud. I'm sure they are pretty nervous about releasing this though, people will freak out if it doesn't work right and they lose their messages. I have a lot of client comms that I wouldn't want to lose either.

I wonder if iMesages in the Cloud could be rolled out server side to avoid the strain of everyone trying to get it working at the same time. Wasn’t Apple Pay Cash done this way?

I still would imagine they would’ve put something in the patch notes though.

I opted not to participate in beta testing for this update. From the posts I've read here in the last weeks/months, iMessages on iCloud was something that was implemented in the betas. Why would they suddenly pull it out right before dropping the GM?

Bummer because I have been waiting for this for a long time ... not to mention it is way overdue.

A almost 1 Trillion dollar company cannot Release a Feature that was announced over a half year ago and tested by the public in like a total of 10 betas. Amazing
1) Maybe it will be released.
2) You don't know why it's not being released if it isn't.
3) Stop fixating on 1 minor detail like it speaks to something bigger.

Used to not have a cell phone, but managed without it. People used to not have cars, but managed without it. People used to not have toilets, but managed without it.

Bummed on lack of iCloud Messages, but SUPER excited about the Homekit software authentication roll-out!

I’m guessing this will enable existing non-HomeKit devices to be very easily made backwards compatible with HomeKit via just a software update? (Assuming the manufacturer would do this).

Bummer was really looking forward to having Messages in the cloud. The first iOS 11 betas and the 11.3 betas had it. Idk in both beta the Messages in the cloud worked great for me. Shame its not ready yet.

As for Airplay 2 still not ready yet. Im guessing the HomePod won't be getting stereo pairing mode any time soon?

That’s actually a hell of a changelog.
Lots of bugs squashed and enhancements done.
But seriously my favorite feature when they announced iOS 11 was iCloud Messages.
This was the feature that I couldn’t wait to see, however, for some reasons i think we won’t see it until 11.4 together with AirPlay 2.

Maybe, just maybe, Apple is going to get it right before release. Lets hope so. If they do, then maybe Apple is again listening to their software engineers. I don't think they have been, because too much time was being spent with media interviews and marketing.
