How hard is it to make pressing home button shut app like ios 10.3.3 theres still a delay its annoying and i aint keep moaning but apple needs to stop the chopyness on ios 11 10 betas are insane to still have problems by now it should be perfect

I wonder, if macrumors forum comment section has a dislike button, how many dislikes of all your iOS 11 lag posts would receive.

It’s there. It’s not lag but a frame drop when the 3d menus open. You will see a little jerk motion if u watch it closely. You may not really notice it if not really looking. And more than 4 or 5 people have it, more like everyone. 😉 It will be fixed eventually.

That's not what's been explained by other posters. They're saying there's a 2-3 second wait before the menu opens - so not, not "everyone", because I don't have that lol.

How did you remove the clock from the lock-screen? Is this only for the iPad as I'm curious if I can do it on my iPhone.

A few thoughts on all the endless stream of comments comparing the iOS 11 betas to iOS 10.3.3 that I've seen throughout the beta period.

1. The initial release of a new iOS version is NEVER as fast or fluid as the final revision of the previous version. It has always been this way. Apple's iOS development strategy is to pack most-to-all of the new features into the X.0 release in a (mostly) stable format and then focus on any straggler features and speed/stability improvements later. That is why there have been X.2 and X.3 releases with most iOS versions. The comparison between iOS 11.0 and iOS 10.3.3 is not fair because you are comparing brand new (beta) software and a revision of iOS 10 that was release over six month after the original build. Apple had a lot of time to optimize the software in iOS 10.3.3 so of course it is faster. Now, we could argue until we are blue in the face about whether it's a good thing that Apple handles iOS development this way. I personally don't like it and would be fine with extending the development cycle from a year to a year and a half if it meant the releases were faster and more stable right from the start. But, I don't work for Apple and clearly have no control over how they do things.
2. While iOS 11.0 might not be as fast or as stable as iOS 10.3.3, it is WAY better than some earlier X.0 builds. Anyone who remembers iOS 7 knows what I'm talking about. iOS 7.0 was so buggy at launch that it was borderline unusable (especially on iPad). I am still amazed to this day that Apple allowed that initial release out the door in the condition it was in. Likewise, iOS 8.0 was also pretty buggy at launch, and the iOS 8.0.1 update actually broke the cellular radio on all the new iPhone 6 models Apple had just started selling. I agree things might not be quite as good as they could be. But, things have come a long way from the self-inflicted disaster that was the iOS 7 launch.
3. At this late point in the beta process, Apple rarely makes any major changes to the software. Keep in mind that, at this point, software is having to be installed on the new iPhones Apple is about to announce next week. Apple can't really make changes without having a discrepancy between the new phones and older models. Yes, that could be remedied with a launch day software update. However, Apple tends to shy away from those it seems (probably because it implies the phone wasn't good-to-go as sold). Most major changes stop coming around beta 5-6 and it becomes small, behind the scenes changes that you might not even notice. Anything that hasn't been fixed or sped up by this point is probably not coming until iOS 11.1. This includes the iMessage syncing (unfortunately) and even the lagginess in the 3D Touch animations (which I think has been way overblown here).
4. Ranting about these issues here does nothing except polarize the conversation. Apple doesn't read these forums. If you haven't yet reported your pet issue through the Feedback app, go do that now. If you have already done that, there's really not much else you can do. Posting about the same issues over and over and over again does nothing except polarize the conversation, with tons of snippy posts like "if you hate the lag so much, go back to iOS 10" or "if you can't understand how terrible this bug is, you must be a moron". I'm paraphrasing of course, but that really feels like what the last few beta threads have devolved into. It's no longer fostering constructive discussion and it's just making everyone angry. I think it's time for everyone to take a breath and realize the issues people are focusing on here are relatively minor and will likely get fixed in the next month or two. The good news is that Apple usually starts seeding betas for the X.1 build within a few weeks of the public X.0 release.

Sorry for the long post but I really feel that the back-and-forth had gotten to be a bit much and these things needed to be said.

Totally seeing a lot more stutters through the OS. Even reading email and scrolling through notifications. And nothing is peaking my cpu.

Odd occurrence. Went to with the phone at 22% battery, plugged in and showing it was charging. Woke in the middle of the night, and looked at the phone. It was at 5% battery, but still displayed the charging icon. Did a hard restart, then it started to gain charge again like normal.

I'm with you on this, too. Personally, I've not encountered any major usability issues on my 7 plus. That doesn't mean that the bugs that others are seeing aren't there—it just speaks to the difficulty in debugging a highly complex OS meant to run on different hardware configurations with an effectively infinite number of possible app combinations.

I usually advise people to wait for an x.0.x or even x.x release before upgrading if they can.

In all seriousness, let’s keep in mind this thread is for reporting on changes/updates in new beta versions. Pointing out stuttering issues and microscopic icon nuances is fine. But the incessant whining, comparisons to 10.3.3, etc etc are misplaced.

I can afford an iPhone every year so I don’t care all that much. However there’s no way I would use iOS for long term use. I would rather use a fast older version of any OS than a slower newer version with frame drops all over the place.

I don't care about your finances. the ios 11 beta on the two 5s are eminently better than 10.3.3 on the same devices and I can't wait to update to ios 11 on my 6s and 7.

Every single thing on my phone since I just installed iOS 11 is sluggish. That’s a perfect word to describe it. I play plenty of demanding games and by those standards it’s safe to say iOS 11 is bringing the A10 and it’s GPU to its knees. It’s definitely not 60fps smooth like on iOS 10.

ios 11 is not bring the 64 chips to it's knees. Seems like it's a BETA and some more optimization that needs to be worked on.

3DT menu is stuttering with no delay. Leave app for home screen still has a delay.

Seems to be mixed reviews, as is always the case, for the iphone 7. People are reporting super smooth operation as well.

I can almost guarantee the 7S and the 8 will both not have this delay and will perform like the 7 Plus used to on iOS 10. Planned Obsolescence dialler up to 11 is what this is. Apple has not at all bothered to optimise iOS 11 for their former flagship.

I can guarantee ios 11 on 64 bit devices will be stellar.

Because this stutter was not there on iOS 10 and iOS 11 added nothing to iOS 10 apart from a redesign and some app updates which merits this stutter.

People just forgot the early betas of every IOS version, selective memory at play here.

Even Android Nougat Betas were more optimised than iOS 11 ones on older devices.

A beta is a beta is a beta. You install a beta on a production device and it's on you.

This here is planned obsolescence. This has been done deliberately so that next iDevice appears snappier. Subtle but noticeable enough.

Or maybe an beta issue that needs to be addressed.🙄 Doesn't happen on my two 5s and I think for those old phones apple would pull out all of it's "planned obsolescence" experience to make it as difficult to use those phones on IOS 11 as possible so I would upgrade.

But alas, given they are 4 years old, ios 11 b10 is running pretty darn well.

Speak selection and speak page still do not use the correct voice... after reporting that 4 times and some apps still do not show the correct document size, some 10 GB hiding behind a 44MB counter for Zinio... 🙁 It's only the 10th beta so why bother right?🙄

It does actually. The control center remote app controls the volume of the Apple TV when you press the volume buttons. But at the same time it also changes the ringer volume. Definitely a bug.[/QUOTE]

Wow it's that bad again?!?! So basically it's back to the behavior pre iOS 10 where the animation continues even if you hit the home button mid animation then the closing animation starts after the opening finishes? That would drive me nuts too. They've trained me to be used to the fluidity and speedyness of iOS 10 on my 7. I can't comprehend how more people don't notice this right away or care. Blows my mind. I know it's beta but I'm sure the final will be the same
just like it is every year!

Interesting. On my iPad it does cancel the animation when the home button is pressed.

Good to hear about the 5s running well.

I remember the beta threads for iOS 10 about fluidity and performance. Plenty of complaints. Now iOS 10 is the new benchmark of fluidity and iOS 11 is not doing well. By the time we get to 11.x, it'll be fine. When the beta for iOS 12 is released next year, same program.

i agree. i now think a reset all settings helps after installing another beta if experiencing issues.

Interesting. On my iPad it does cancel the animation when the home button is pressed.

While I do have the initial delay when pressing the home button on my 7, I can interrupt the opening animation with my home button as it is immediately responsive during the animation. Once I wait for the app to open, then press the home button, I get the half second delay.

A beta is a beta is a beta. You install a beta on a production device and it's on you. But alas, given they are 4 years old, ios 11 b10 is running pretty darn well.

With almost forced upgrades and no downgrade path, one of the primary reasons I run Beta's on my devices isn't to find the bugs, it's to determine whether I'm going to upgrade my devices with production releases. Sooner or later, but ALWAYS sooner than Apple determines a device is "un-updatable", IOS outruns a device.
