iOS 11 On My iPhone X - Some UI Observations

That empty space beneath the keyboard is trash. I don't think putting the predictive text bar down there is a good idea because it would cause too many misfires but the way it is designed now looks sloppy. A lot of iOS 11 on the X looks unfinished TBH.

Sometimes I feel like Jony is asleep at the wheel. I love the man's work but the stuff just doesn't seem as neat and tidy as it used to be. Perhaps that's a Jobs absence thing.

Unless they tried this (likely) and interfered with the swipe up gesture. I would bet they'll refine this quite a bit over the next year.

Welp, how long is it going to take to jailbreak???!

The X makes me want to jailbreak again. Been a year or so since I have.

Jail breakers will do more to help use the real estate properly than Apple will. At least for a while I feel. Was like that on the 5 and with 3D Touch. Apple eventually steals most of the good ideas, but it takes them a while...

My thoughts exactly. I’ve stuck solely to a 24 hour clock since 2000 when I lived in Prague. I’ll never go back.

This is the first iOS made for the iPhone X. Obviously there are going to be future refinements and improvements. Just keep making suggestions directly to Apple (or complain more on these forums as it seems Apple monitors them).

Man...I just really don't think I'll ever be able to enjoy a device like this because of oddities with UI and ergonomics. The iPhone 8 might be the last phone I buy for a very very long time.

But you actually get more useable screen space on the plus models.

I assume the space below the keyboard is so you keep away from the home swipe area when reaching for the space bar. It does seem a shame that they didn’t add a row of number keys to the portrait keyboard

Eventually I hope they get rid of the home swipe bar thing - seems unnecessary as swiping up from off the bottom of the screen should be easy to remember. Ditch the left/right swipe for multitasking and free that bottom space for more content.

Um, if you don't know if it's am or pm I suggest you need more than an iPhone to help you. As for the battery percentage I would have thought even with the "rabbit ears" there would be enough room. Have a look under Battery settings where you access low powers mode and battery life suggestions. It should be the second item.

Don’t bother looking there. it's not an option on the iPhone X.
Only way you can check the battery percentage quickly is either by pulling down from the top right to bring down “Control Centre” or by swiping left from either the lock screen or the home screen and having the battery status widget set up at the top of the widgets page.
