My phone capitalizes random words and that’s quite annoying. It doesn’t have a rhyme or reason...
My ipad on ios11 does this too. Mine seems to be because of a phantom double space i get, which usually gives you the period for end of sentence and then capitalizes the next letter for start of sentence. But I don’t get the period.

The only thing the spell fixer is good at predicting is how to most inconceivably mess up just about everything I type, always.

It also isn't much impressed when I switch to using Spanish for a message or two, fighting me on every single word in the message. Thought it was supposed to be able to auto-detect language now?

I'm seeing this on both of my macs, but not on my iPhone in iMessage, replacing the letter "I," both running 10.13. Also seeing the autocorrect bug, but it doesn't seem to insert it, it just shows up as an option.

I figured out a work around for this. If you create a text replacement for “I” and make it replace it with “I “ (notice the space) it works around the issue.

A growing number of iOS 11 users have been encountering a strange predictive text bug over the course of the last few days, with the problem outlined on the MacRumors forums.

It seems some users are seeing "A[?]" as the first recommended predictive text word when using the iOS keyboard, and whenever "I" is typed, it autocorrects to A[?].

It's not clear what's causing the bug, but a fair number of MacRumors readers and Twitter users seem to be experiencing the problem. Not everyone is affected, though, and we have been unable to replicate the issue on our own devices.

It may potentially be linked to emoji, as a strange "I" character also appears under the frequently used emoji for some customers who are affected.

The problem seems to be affecting devices running both iOS 11.0.3 and iOS 11.1, and some users are also seeing the odd predictive text show up on Macs, too, as predictive text is available on all devices via iCloud.

Turning off predictive text is a reliable way of putting an end to the issue, as is using a third-party keyboard, but neither of these options are long term solutions for customers who want to use the full-featured built-in keyboard.

Resetting the keyboard dictionary does not appear to fix the issue, nor does a device restart or reset. One MacRumors reader who got in touch with Apple Support about the issue was told that Apple is aware of the problem and working on a fix.

Predictive text has been seriously messed up since iOS 10 for all people using more than one language on their phones.

I haven’t found a way to let Apple know apart from Genius Bar guys who all confirm this bug but have no way to contact Apple about it.

Instead of simply ignoring a word from another language the following happens:

When writing text in any app using the apple keyboards (and third party keyboards like Gboard), Predictive Text predicts words from a different language than the keyboard language.

In detail:

Two keyboards have been activated on an iPhone e.g. English and German. (Or English and Portuguese. Any romanised language.)

The chosen keyboard is English.

Predictive Text will predict German words though there are many English words starting with the same letter combination that has been typed in.

Example:

When typing the first few letters of 'melancholy' with the UK English keyboard activated, the German words 'melancholie and melancholisch' are suggested.

When typing the first few letter of the German word 'Freundin' (girlfriend) whilst the German keyboard is activated, the English words 'From and Francisco' are suggested (not German words).

There are thousands of more examples of wrongly suggested words, also capitalisation of words that are usually lower case in English e.g. visa.

This problem exists for all romanised languages it seems. I have also tried Portuguese, Canadian and US English.

Example for English-Portuguese:

When typing 'me' with the UK English keyboard activated, the Portuguese word 'melhor' (better) gets suggested though there are hundreds of English words starting with 'me'.

Why is this a problem?

Certain languages are very similar. Like English and German. I have started sending emails and messages using German words by accident instead of the intended English words because I didn't see the subtle difference in spelling right away. Vey embarrassing in a professional environment.

Also, what sense does predictive text make, if it only predicts words one doesn’t want to use, i.e. words from another language?

On the Apple support website it states clearly that predictive text should predict words from the language that has been chosen with the keyboard. Unfortunately this hasn't been the case for all versions of iOS 10 and 11 so far.

All this was tested on factory reset iPhones as well. Even on a factory reset iPhone in an Apple Store.

Make sure to force quit the app you want to write text in after having activated an additional keyboard to make this bug show up from the next launch of the app on.

Tests have been conducted on more than 20 iPhones using iOS versions from iOS 10.0 to 11.1.

On the iPad I use a swipe gesture to add a question mark to a sentence. Lately I've been having an issue where it inserts a single quote between the sentence and the question mark. In other words shift-swipe-/ gives me:

How are you'?

instead of:

How are you?

Clear the iOS keyboard cache for learned words.

I understand that the word "I" is often used and it must be annoying.

But in comparison on the German keyboard, already in all iOS 10 versions, you have hundreds of mistakes. The person who programmed it does not know German properly. All words like "konnte, hatte ..." will be autocorrected to "könnte, hätte ..." as if the other words do not even exist.

I stopped using the stock keyboard as soon as third-party ones were allowed. The main issue with the iOS stock keyboard is the inability to remove individual words from the dictionary. I had typed tge instead of the a few times, and it would keep bringing tge. I know that over time and usage, these autocorrect errors get fixed, but it would be so much easier to just long press a wrong predicted word and ask to never suggest it again. I also wish for a swipe option.

This particular bug appears related to new emojis - I had the horizontal stacked bars show instead of the new emojis from iOS 11.1. when viewing messages on my mac (10.12.6).

??? I get this feeling that someone copied and pasted a double-byte NLS character in there that looks like an I and the thing is freaking out.

Now, capitalizing words randomly, or going all caps on something like MARIO is obnoxious. Or not being able to type "do you want to order some good?" "Order some good" "Good" "F O O D"... but I don't understand this one...

I️ have this bug (there it just went, typing this on an iPhone and apparently today the A has switched to an exclamation point). And since the last eat update, iOS consistently autocorrects standard English words to names in my contacts which are 1-2 letters off. It changed “head” to Hess yesterday. It also wants to capitalize random words mid-sentence.

Are these other issues happening for other people?
[doublepost=1509642080][/doublepost]*Last update. No eating here. Though I️ am hungry. DAMMIT. I am hungry, not I️ am hungry.

I missed that thank you.

Very odd only a few are affected.
I️ was watching the World Series with 12 people last night and 7 of us were affected by this bug. I️ know that’s anecdotal but my experience is that many people I know have this bug. Everyone at the table who had iOS 11 had the bug, everyone who didn’t didn’t.

Im not kidding you, ever since iOS 11 came out, Siri understands me far less than she did before. I have a lisp, but Siri used to do so well, and understood me. Now, she transcribes text correctly, and then "autocorrects" it to be very wrong. Same for when I type. Stuff autocorrects to incorrect things and i'm often trying 3-4 times to just type a simple sentence because everything gets changed even when I have typed it out correctly.

I absolutely hate iOS 11 and regret updating my devices. I hope this gets fixed soon.

Same problem. Is there a fix?
[doublepost=1509653749][/doublepost]Same keyboard prediction error. Is there a fix yet?

I've been having this issue but do not have predictive text on. I solved it by turning off pretty much all keyboard features.

I figured out a work around for this. If you create a text replacement for “I” and make it replace it with “I “ (notice the space) it works around the issue.
Good work around! Thanks you!
Apple FIX THIS!!!! Shouldn’t have to do workaround!

Seems like creating and using a keyboard text replacement shortcut for this is the best workaround for the moment (short of perhaps disabling auto-correct and predictive features, or doing something even more impactful like singing out of iCloud or resetting settings if not even reinstalling).

I first noticed this on my Mac when I got the characters you showed in Messages. Now on my iPhone 7+ I'm getting the auto correct of I to A [?], but it only shows up on the Apple Keyboard, not the GBoard.
