This is a great idea, but why pressing 5 times?
Surely 3 times would have been more than sufficient while making this action quicker and ultimately more usable.
Three times currently initiates the magnifier. Two times initiates the apps dump. I don't know about 4x.

?? Tons of news stories have been covering this, cops are illegally searching and seizing electronic devices of AMERICAN CITIZENS at the border...
Actually it is not illegal for the LEOs to do that at the border, but it should be illegal.

Well, I have no idea why anyone would fidget with the power button of their phone, but as we are all different I accept that some people might do just that.
So what if they bring up a menu by mistake. It is not as if the phone is going to explode or anything... exactly what "alarm" are you referring to?
If you have Auto Call turned on it matters because it will give a 3 second countdown timer before calling 911. It can optionally play a warning sound which is quite loud for certain situations.
Take a look at the settings in Settings > Emergency SOS.

Seriously, does nobody look into the settings of their device? Or are you not running iOS 11? This was the behavior in previous seeds.

I don't run IOS11 ("seriously", why should I? I will when you have finished beta testing it for me.) and this behaviour is not mentioned anywhere in the article, so I had no way of knowing this.

Please read the article and the various responses. Different buttons...

After doing the five press the screen gives four options, 'Slide to power off.' being the first one... I'd think that anytime I'd need to lock the screen like that, or call 911 even, the last thing I'd want is an option to power the phone off offered up to anyone with a finger.

I think the power off option should be removed, and I also think that the power/lock button itself ought to be prevented from powering the phone off - until a passcode is entered.
