All my devices are still on iOS 10 except my junk iPhone 5S. Surprisingly it works pretty good.

Updating to iOS 12 was one of the most pleasant surprises - my iPhone 7 now actually works smoother again! First time this happened to me. Kudos to Apple for making performance improvement. I noticed phone need a bit more time to re-connect to Wi-fi when in low batter mode, but this is just a minor annoyance. Screen time and grouped notifications are a really nice add.

iOS 12 Now Installed on 46% of Devices, Close to Overtaking iOS 11
Correction: iOS 12 Now Installed on 46% of Devices, that visit pages monitored by Mixpanel

The acually percentaage would be lower as Mixpanel's data is collected from devices that visit pages they monitor, this is going to skew towards more enthusiastic users who update to the new OS quickly and tend to use their device more so are more likely to visit a page monitored by Mixpanel

Current numbers show Android 9.0, released in August, at less than 0.1%.

Android 8.1, released in August 2017, is at 5.8%.
Those are the Google numbers, that included any device that was turned on during the month and managed to connect to the connect to the Android servers. A fairer comparison here would be Mixpanel's Android number, that are obtained using the same methodology was the iOS number. (see my previous post)

Pie is over 1%
Android 8.0+ is a 1/3 of users visiting Mixpanel monitored sites.

Yes. We all know Google is doing a great job keeping devices updated and they don't ever track us.

Excuse me while I run an ad targeting women in the top 10% income bracket who like purple.

I updated right away on my iPhone 8 Plus. It's working really well and I'm loving Google Maps on Car Play. There are a couple of things in the messages app that I find annoying though.

When you tap the camera button next to the text box, iOS 11 would pull up a menu where you either take a photo or scroll thru your camera roll to add an image to the message. Now on iOS 12, that same camera button brings up the camera full screen and if you want to add a photo from your camera roll you have to reach to the upper left hand corner to pull up the camera roll. An added step for no reason.

Also, iOS 11 had the info button in the upper right hand corner. Now you have to tap the contact's name which pulls up a menu with options for audio, FaceTime, or info. Another added step for no reason.

These probably aren't major issues for a lot of people but I frequently used what I described above. Still not used to the changes after a couple of weeks. Idk why companies can't just leave what works alone. Instagram is also driving me nuts with their new sidebar menu.

You're only hurting yourself. iOS 12 is a great release.

Dont forget it is actually easily possible to upgrade on iOS versus android you hope/pray/beg your handset gets an upgrade.

Meanwhile, why is my Samsung S2 Tablet slow as heck after a year of ownership...so annoying
Care to explain a little bit?

I held out as well when I heard about this, but I installed a few days ago and didn't notice any difference at all (Saturation-wise). Go for it, it's a solid update
Thank you for sharing the info.
Will look deeper into it before biting the bullet since there is no turning back.

The point of my post was that if you want to compare data it should be collected using the same methods, in this case comparing Mixpanel data in iOS to Mixpanel data on Android.

That said, Google could and should to a better job at getting devices on the newest (or at least newer) versions of Android. Full OS undated are less important on Android then iOS as they have a difference models. On Android security patches are separate to OS updates. I just received a security patch for a device running 8.1 not 9. Also many of the features and APIs are in Playservices that is updated via the Play Store not OS update.

Frankly that percentage should be higher. iOS 12 is the best version since iOS 6 imo feature and performance wise. I didn’t have problems with iOS 11 but on older devices it has made a huge difference. Group FaceTime will make it even more compelling to upgrade. I guess the extra emojis as well.

iOS 12 is awesome. Way better than previous versions. I'm surprised it's taken this long for people to upgrade.

For a fair comparison, iOS install base should be compared with the latest version of Android on Google's own Pixel devices because outside of that Google has little control over OEM's timeline to roll new versions

So it’s only a fair comparison if you happen to ignore that Google’s business model for their OS practically guarantees little or no upgrades from their OEMs?

Wonder if Android has 10% on the newest OS.
Not even that high, Though is that relevant to how iOS is supported by apple ?

One of the perks is apple pushing out annual updates , which other hardware manufacturers are not competing with.

iOS 12 should be higher though, 11 is poor
