I want to know more about the feature before I get excited about it. Does it only silence calls that show up on the caller ID as 'Unknown'? If so, that feature has very little benefit to me. Probably only 1 to 2 percent of the junk calls I receive actually show up as 'Unknown' on the caller ID. The rest of the junk calls I receive have spoofed the caller ID so that the area code and exchange is the same as my number but the last four digits are different every time. THOSE are the calls I really want to silence.

I also get calls from people who intentionally block their numbers. So unless this feature sends all blocked numbers, unknown numbers, etc. to voicemail then it doesn't have any real value to me.

Silencing unknown callers is a good start. I'd like to also be able to direct unknown callers to a secondary custom voicemail message. Something along the lines of "... your number is not in my contacts and was blocked, but please leave me a message if you'd like me to call you back ..."

I never answer any unexpected numbers and add them to the block list. Sometimes the number might be legit, and maybe I've come off as rude, but I'll also never call back if no message is left.

Have you tried and app called 'Wide protect' it might help you, I'm not sure?

You can input all of the first numbers as you've specified- area code etc, add the last 4 as'*' and it will block any, and all, numbers in the range.
It would block those calls but where that may not work for you is then if you numbers from people in your area that you want to get calls from, although it will ignore anyone in your contacts if that's any help.

These things are a real pest but fortunately for me most of them I get come from Tunisia so I use this app to block all calls from the country.

Blocking unknown callers won't help me much as increasingly people have their phones set up to not give caller ID.
My children's school for instance and when I asked them about it they said it was a security feature.

i can't believe they are finally adding the wifi/btooth toggles, you were able to do this with jailbreak for the last decade or so...

and terrible move on removing the updates tab.

Agree with both.
- Quick Wifi/Bluetooth access is one of the best small features.
- Update tab was pretty useful, because auto-updates do not really auto-update, also separate games and arcade tab was really necessary ??

I also get calls from people who intentionally block their numbers. So unless this feature sends all blocked numbers, unknown numbers, etc. to voicemail then it doesn't have any real value to me.

As I have voicemail turned off, will this feature not work for me, or will they just be blocked?

All I really want is a way to block 'No caller Id' calls. They are 100% spam for me.

Has anyone tested the auto hotspot feature that is being promised? It seems like it would be a nice feature for an iPad to auto connect to an iPhone's data connection if there is no Wi-Fi available.

Can anyone check if we can sort notes folders in Notes app manually now? Also, is it possible to create nested folders on iOS now?

There have been a lot of complaints about this new feature, and frankly I was one of them. I get scads of scam phone calls a week, all from spoofed numbers or “unknown”. And as we all know, people sometimes deliberately make their numbers as unknown - I’ve done it myself. So this new feature sort of defeats the purpose.

Until reading and re-reading mrgraff’s comment. If people really need to get hold of me, they can damned well leave a voicemail. It’s why I pay for the service. Up till now I’ve answered all calls because I know some of them are coming from numbers at my business (they all come through as “unknown”). But I can’t think of a single person in my life who is incapable of leaving a message.

So I’ll follow your lead @mrgraff: I’ll stop answering calls from the unknowns out there. And when this feature is available, I’ll gladly turn it on and enjoy the silence for a change.

Why is this a mistake? It appears to still be one tab away. Just tap on your profile, instead of a tab called updates.
Number of people who will use Arcade versus number of people who update their apps is vastly different.

I think you speak for most people on this website maybe.

The average consumer likely never visits the Update section and has auto updates on.
I don't have those stats to prove it but from what I've seen in the wild, most clear that red icon daily.

Oh they finally separated the LTE and the Roaming settings.

Never understood why they were bundled together in the first place.

Maybe someone can answer this question for me. Does unknown caller means not in contacts, or just ones who have their numbers blocked as no caller ID? Because I answer the phone from potential clients, I am really hoping it isn't the first one. But I do want all "Private Numbers" blocked!

Sorry if someone already provided this (too lazy to read all the replies).

Re: block unknown numbers, the way I read it, it will be anybody not in your Contacts app, Mail, Messages. So, with option on, anything outside of these will go straight to voicemail.

Silence unknown callers
A new setting protects users from unknown and spam callers. When the setting is turned on, iOS uses Siri intelligence to allow calls to ring your phone from numbers in Contacts, Mail, and Messages. All other calls are automatically sent to voicemail.

I wish there was a way to archive folders in Notes. Right now, it’s either keep them all or delete.

(Does anyone have a solution?)

Either way, iOS 13 is looking amazing. Just hope it’s super fast and low on bugs;

Mixed bag as usual. Will adjust to the things I don't like and welcome the things I do. I agree moving the updates tab is stupid but never mind, it's a minor annoyance. Still wish I could turn Wifi off in CC (they add the ability to change networks but not just a simple off switch? They really don't want people to turn it off ever do they?!) but oh well.

In China the Chinese have made similar Chargers and cables with similar options for quite some time. Apple just tweaked it in their own OS software

I think if you need a reading goal thing in iBooks to encourage you to read, you should probably consider not reading on your iPad/iPhone and just using a book or maybe a Kindle.

The popularity of paper books p, when we thought they would go away, is because it’s easier to read and not get distracted. A kindle does the same thing of course.

And as an FYI iOS 13 is pretty freakin stable so far too - I'm having really just a couple of minor issues so far - ring tones being one. The worst beta in the history of iOS is still iOS 7.

iOS 11 would like a word.

Just did a quick test - such an easy test that I'm sure I'm missing posts above where people have already done this, but at the risk of this being a repeat ...

I phoned myself from my landline. Mobile rang.

I deleted my landline number from my contacts and phoned myself again. Immediately got a "missed call" notification and the call from my landline went to voicemail. I hung up. I then got an sms (this is network dependent I assume) from my network provider stating "you missed a call from xxxx they didn't leave a voicemail".

So for me, it's working as I want it to. However, I can see myself toggling the "Silence unknown callers" option regularly, as some days I'll be expecting calls from people who are not in my contact list. But most of the time, especially out of office hours, I'm not.

Apparently, this is done by Siri and doesn't just search contacts, but also searches iMessages and emails for phone numbers. I'm not sure how it'll search all my emails as they're IMAP and not local.
