So what would happen when a legit person calls, say someone from an extension at your doctors office, or calls about a job application? If they can’t leave voicemail, then what?
I wouldn’t care, but what I meant was even if you know a number is spam today and they can still leave a voicemail if blocked in iOS.

Agreed it might be nice to manually block numbers from leaving voicemail but this would only be useful for an annoying ex or something like that. Any spammer/ scammer calls I get spoof their number and rarely use the same one twice.

Oh no, lucky you don't HAVE to use it then. What would YOU like them to do?

That's actually an awesome idea, roboanswer the robocallers lol. I think google's demo last year with their voice service booking a table shows its possible.

The latest demonstration of what Siri sounds like in iOS 13 is a very good demonstration of what’s possible. I’m actually pretty sure Apple will implement some version of Siri answering unknown calls or telling your contacts when you’re busy and can’t take phone calls. It just makes sense to turn Siri into the most powerful assistant ever. I’m still very happy with this temporary solution, though. I’ve always dreamed of the day nobody would ever be able to ring my phone again unless they’re in my contacts list. I’m so excited for this update!

I was really wanting them to do something similar to the Pixel phones where your virtual assistant answers the phone and you can watch to see if you want to answer. I'm starting to think I might like the straight to voicemail option better because the vast majority of the time a number I don't recognize is spam instead of a legit call I care about.

Wow for me not usable at all. How do couriers contact you guys? In my country by phone. Also for example when an Uber calls you it will too send it to voice mail. ..food delivery? Same thing.
For me I would just switch off the feature if I was expecting food delivery or Uber, then turn back on when done. I assume it's just a quick settings menu toggle option.

Literally 2 legitimate calls all day from the wife. My wife actually hates calling me now because I keep her on the line asking how her day is going. I’m just so happy I only have to do this until September. Also have robokiller installed. 6 calls not shown here were blocked in robokiller today.

Hmmm I wouldn't mind sending all calls from withheld numbers to voicemail but sending all unknown numbers to voicemail is a bit too hardcore for me :) hopefully we may be able to tweak these settings in a later version?

One thing for sure. They aren’t gonna stop. Not everybody gonna have iOS 13 and not everybody know this feature exists.

In fact, this feature has been with Android for very long time, and it didn’t stop scammers trying
But with those who activated it... It worked right?

Yes it does work. I was late with my electric bill. Too bad. Your date was this and I got paid 2 days later. The particular company whom I've just ditched in favour of one who doesn't brutally robocall you the day after the due date first robocalled with a visible number. Since it wasn't on my contacts it went straight to voice mail. Somehow the robocaller detects this, and doesnt leave a message. An hour or so later, it sends a "No Caller ID" call to the voicemail (the one half an hour in between, I answered, and it was the robodialler.

Slowly but surely 6 unknown callers were blocked. I still had a call from a friend during this barrage of robocalls.

A utility company should not use a reminder service that uses a robotic voice to call you. A real person should, and it should be from an identifiable number from the company. Not some random number, or a "No Caller ID".

The bill was paid 2 days after the due date, and the calls stopped, so I can now deduce that all the robocalls were from the electric company. So my next bill from them will be the last, and paid off VERY slowly. Screw em.

We didn't need an upgrade to do this, it's already possible. All you have to do is go into phone settings and turn on Do Not Disturb, scroll down to Allow Calls From and change it to All Contacts, then under that turn off Repeated Calls. Now your phone will ring only if the person is in your contact list. The rest go to voicemail.
If they really want to be helpful they will completely block any that are "No Caller ID" because right now Verizon charges for this feature when it used to be free.

Do not disturb also blocks texts. That doesn't work for me.

It doesn't block texts but it does disable notifications to include those for text messages. I know because I use what that person suggested. I think the new iOS 13 system of automatically sending unknown callers to voicemail will be better though.

Agreed. That's actually what I meant. I want to know I'm being sent a text while still sending calls from people not in my contacts to voicemail.

What about not picking it unless you want to ? Should cut down on the robocalls, but the issue is being tackled from the wrong angle.

Instead of the company putting up blocks in their phones, regulators should be doing more to stop this. And not by a Do not call website which there is no boundaries for.

I have DND already scheduled each night to silence all notifications. How can I set it up to do both?

I like the new feature. Only issue I have is that calls still ring on my connected nearby IPAD.

This works for me except when I’m on-call at work. I can get a call from anyone in the one of my employers international NOC’s so I have to remember to turn it off when my turn comes up in our on-call rotation.
