I think Mail will never be resolved. Will remain buggy forever.
Still I have not stopped reporting bugs in detail.Whilst email now works perfectly for me on my iPhone and iPad, there are still synchronisation issues between my watch and phone. So I think you are right, that in some way or other email is destined to be as unreliable as it has always been since iOS 13 was first released.
Try offloading it.I installed 14.0.1 yesterday, paired my new S6 watch to it for the first time and noticed this morning that at some point between last night and tonight, Apple's Mail app was responsible for almost 50% of my battery usage (which was draining way faster than normal), which is weird BECAUSE I DON'T USE APPLE'S MAIL APP.
Rebooting my iPhone appears to have fixed the issue. But that would have been my next move.Try offloading it.
Who said iOS 14 was supposed to be a "bug fix" version like iOS 12 was? Its more of a re-write than any other version it would seem.Mini widgets and apps icons still present on iPad. Very frustrating for an OS that supposed to be a buf fix focused one Like iOS 12.
