It would help if Apple allowed access to lower level operating system resources so developers could build insightful system monitoring utilities. Then perhaps users could identify processes consuming system resources.
I actually jailbroken my iphone for the first time because of this. I managed to download CocoaTop but the limited knowledge that I have ,I didn't see anything suspicious or overly consuming system resource

iPad Pro and iPhone X have severe battery drain. The iPad lasts less than a day which is ridiculous. On the top of that, it has tons issues like Facetime and Safari freeze and crash.

I feel like this is a legitimate situation where Apple should allow customers the option to check a box accepting security risks and then let the customer downgrade to the previous version of iOS. Has this ever been explored in a class action lawsuit? I really, really don’t want to sound like the typical litigious type, but again I feel that this is the only way to get Apple to move on some things, as has happened a few times in the past.

A friend of me bought a new iphone 7 in october, he used it a week with ios 14.1 no 'problems', then he did the upgrade to ios 14.2 and his battery drained real fast. he send it back for 'repair', it came back 'repaired' and all they did was downgrading to ios 14.1

Not sure why you'd pay for a service you're not able to use? But since this thread is about the battery draining I think it's best to remain on topic.
So we aren't allowed to answer questions directed at us? Oh shoot....that's a question that isn't on the battery drain topic, better not answer it. BTW, Fitness+ is part of the bundle I'm paying for and I'm not able to use it. So there.

iPhone 7+ here.
Had Apple replace the battery 2 months ago since it was showing it’s age...

This new battery was fine...then 14.2 hit and I’m at 93% total capacity. It either stays at 100% for an hour after a charge or runs down to 50% within a few. Sitting overnight in airplane mode will easily lose 50%. Random shut offs at 20%.

Called last Wednesday to complain and they are sending a new box to ship back...but not sure what’s taking that box so long to get here. 😉

I did an experiment to test my 12 mini on standby.
- Conditions: dark screen, brightness 25-30%, no vibration, siri off, wifi on, localization at minimum, phone used for a few tens of minutes overall (only to check battery and notifications). Only one day I spent it out without wifi for about 8 hours.

The battery is currently at 29% after approximately 83 hours.
- Night consumption about 5% in 7 hours.
- Average consumption in stand by 0.8-1% per hour.
- Disturbing consumption during very light use (no heavy apps, only settings and whatsapp): about 3% in 6 minutes.
How do you think about?

What does your screen on time vs battery consumption chart show?

I am testing my 12 mini with low power mode on all day, using it for calls, texts, checking apps, some internet browsing. Doing this on LTE mostly.

close to 2 hours of screen on time for about 25% battery usage per day, extrapolating to 7-8 hours of SOT for a full charge.

I would think, even for the smaller capacity of the mini, I should be squeezing out more battery life than this. On the iphone se 2020 I was getting close to 6 hours SOT on ios 13.7, without low power mode.

Sot isn’t indicative in my test, i’m using phone only to check battery level, so most of sot is home screen activated by notifications.
I think yours 2 hours/25% are great!
I lose 2-3% in 6-7 min only watching screen or settings or wa...it mean it could drain 50-60% in 2 hours of sot, maybe more if i use heavy apps.
Very disappointing!

Yes that is disappointing indeed.

I would have thought, with low power mode all the time, I could get 10 hours SOT though...but maybe I'm asking for too much.

I know without it, 14.2.1 does burn and churn the battery like you are seeing.

My old iPad Air 2 went from a solid 5+ days on light use down to 2 days (!). I’ve now updated to the 14.3 public beta.

My iphone 11 pro is affected too, but not quite as much.

On my iPad Air 2, iOS 14.2 battery section reports several apps as draining the battery, but what’s more peculiar is that right under them it says in smaller greyed out font ”Audio”. Makes me think the audio engine is constantly pulling off some shenanigans in the background. It would make sense to some degree, because audio on iPhone 12 Mini sounds horrible. sounds like it’s inside a PVC pipe lol. By the way, this comment took 2% of battery to write. I am attaching a screenshot.

Gen 1 SE here with 100% battery health, was using it yesterday and battery was dropping about 2% a minute with screen on!! Went down 40% in about 5-8 mins of static screen-on (no video), down to 45% from 85%. Rebooted it and it was back to 60%. Something very weird for sure. Phone is indoors, no cold weather exposure.

100% from 8:40am to 13:40
99% at 16:40
98% at 18:40
97% at 19:40
96% at 20:00 using it 2 minutes!

Drain battery is “ok” in stand by (0.8%/h in previous tests), but it is annoying during use.
2-3% on average in 5-6 minutes!

Hey guys, hope this isn't too off topic for this thread, but I finally upgraded to a new phone today from my iPhone 7 Plus. I did the upgrade through Best Buy since they service Verizon customers, and I went there for other things as well. I got the iPhone 12 Pro Max, as it seems to be the closest size overall to my 7 Plus.

Also got a nice trade -in deal $150 for the 7 Plus as even after 3 years, was considered in perfect condition.

So far the battery life has been great, and having to learn the gestures + FaceID haven't been that bad. Still prefer Touch ID, but I'm able to use the phone. My experience at BB was top notch, the person helping me really knew what she was doing, and we restored my icloud backup before I left and made sure my phone was fully functional. I've been going through things here off and on all day and it's working just fine. Also she let me initiate the erase and wipe on the old phone before I left, and when I got home found it still showed up as signed in, but took care of that by manually removing it from my account. All seems good. There wasn't anything wrong with the other phone, I just felt it was time for an upgrade. Besides that, I went from a 32 GB phone to 128 for $150 off the new one, and that will also reduce the monthly payments now on my verizon bill as I pay this off over the next two years.

If I notice anything about the battery, i'll post it here.
