But it just shows an area on the map like with other things you might know what area it’s in but it doesn’t give exact location
I think AirTags will have the U1 chip in them, which will probably help giving an exact location.

Nope uwb only works near the device so unless it’s near it then it’s kinda useless

What do you mean “nope?”

UWB is certainly not useless. Think about how this works. What you see on your ”find my“ app is the LAST REPORTED lcoation of your missing item. You come to my house and leave your widget in my seat cushions. You leave. You go home. You go into the find my app and ask for a location.

My phone, using GPS, knows what house I am in. Using Bluetooth and UWB it knows exactly where your item is - in my seat cushions. It reports the exact location on Apple’s “find my network” and your phone can display it.

You seem to think the missing object has to be within direct radio contact with the missing item, but that’s silly.

Can’t wait to see another PROSSER fail prediction this month when Airtags don’t come out:cool:
They don’t call him prosser the tosser for nothing.

Right so it’s looking as though AirTags are coming in the March event then... or they are definitely imminent.

Can someone explain how airtags with U1 chip work I thought the U1 chip needs to be near the phone so if something is lost how would it ping the phone; would it use gps? Ultra wide band only works close to a device
Has been explained a thousand times.

there needs to A A phone close to act as hub. The tag itself has no intelligence or capability other than special awareness bluetooth.

PowerBeats show up in the Devices tab (since b2), not this newly unlocked Items tab. (this could change of course)

Surely the phone will be pinging the device occasionally and recording the phones GPS location when it gets a response. If it suddenly doesn’t get a response it will look up the gps location of last known contact, direct you to that and then use uwb for the final few meters?

I'd bet anything Tiles has spent a fortune and tons of time to get ready for an anti-trust lawsuit, and it’s all going to be wasted when Apple makes Find My an open API for partners.

I don’t think it was the original plan to open this to 3rd parties, but Apple ran the analysis and the revenue and lock-in was not worth the anti-trust headaches.
No, I think Apple will open it up without really opening it up. If you know what I mean.

It's like those free to play games.

It's a feature. Yeah, I was too. Having to replace them so soon made it just so bad. I don't wear them riding outside, not that I've ridden outside much anyway.
That's quite brilliant. I did not know about this.

If you need to find only one AirPod or AirPod Pro

If your AirPods or AirPods Pro are separated from each other, you see only one location at a time on the map. Find the AirPod or AirPod Pro that you see on the map and put it in its case. Then refresh the map and find the other one.

I was happy with it... They seem to think of everything. I mean, the Air Pod already has a connection to your iPhone/iPad. Why not use that connection to find the little buggers. My wife lost her iPhone, and was seriously headed out the door to buy a new one when I told her to log in with her AppleID and use the 'Find My feature. It showed a remote location that she was at earlier in the day, so we trekked out there, and it was accurate within about 20 feet. Found the iPhone, it was on its face, and the sound was turned down, but in the dark, we found it. So cool...
