iOS 14.5 Beta 5 ― Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

I installed the beta yesterday on my 12 Pro. I went to bed and it charged wireless with magsafe over Night. This morning i took it from the charger and after some minutes the back of the device was very warm and battery dropped from 100-95% in couple of minutes. Did a hard reboot but it didn‘t helped. Only after i turned off the device completly for couple of minutes and turned it back on helped and now its working like it should. Very strange 🤷🏼‍♂️

Same here.
 
Background app refresh is not working since beta 1. Especially in Whatsapp and Telegram. Hope they fixed in final release.

You should lower your brightness, and check it on in a dark environment. I am %100 sure that you'll see. This is how it is with OLED panels. As I explained, just search on Google so that you can see what's the nature of the problem.

Also note that this only happens when you scroll over a complete dark background. If you're using light theme, you don't see it at all! That's actually the reason why some apps like Twitter has different Dark mode theme settings: Gray (Dim) and Black.

Guys, purple glow is normal for all OLED display. Since iPhone X you can see this issue in all iPhones (OLED display). But on iOS 14.5 beta 2, Apple resolved black dimming issue. After that purple glow is more visible in all gray sections of black background. Restoring to previous iOS versions can reduce this old issue.

what about opening apps animation stutter in new beta? Is it fixed?

I see it as well on my 12 Pro Max… Probably would never have noticed it but for the posts in here… now I can’t un-see it and I will lose sleep worrying about it. 😵

But seriously, must be something to do with how the phone is trying to quickly re-draw the blacks against that shade of gray when scrolling. I see it on a few screens in the settings where that color scheme is prominent in dark mode. Don’t anything like it when the screen is in light mode with the white background.

This will be WAY down on their list of priorities to fix.

Hi and thanks for your feedback.
I'm very meticolous when it comes to iPhone's screens, so i'm pretty sure that this glith wasn't there before the i jumped on beta train.

i'm going to get away from the downgrade... huge waste of time. I'll just for the next beta to be released.

I tried to explain that this cannot be fixed via a software update. This is the nature of the display hardware. One thing Apple can do to mitigate people realizing the problem is to use dark gray background instead of complete black when dark mode is turned on.

There are obviously display calibration settings that can mitigate the problem while messing up with the colors of the display. As I said, you get frustrated when you realize it but you get use to it after a while. I'm using smartphones with OLED displays since 2013, and it was always there and it will always be there if you have an OLED display.

Note that the issue is more severe on iPhone X, Xs, and 11 Pro series. They somehow improved the problem on iPhone 12 series but it is still noticeable.

Can you share videos on 14.5 beta 5, and iOS 14.4.1? Maybe it is because it got worsened on your devices. For me, it is exactly the same as it was on iOS 14.1 when I got my iPhone 12. I immediately realized that it is better than my old iPhone XS. Not on 14.5 beta 5, it still seems same when I put side by side iPhone 12 on 14.5 beta 5 with and my old iPhone XS running on 14.4.1.

But I can assure you that it was always there maybe it was better on your devices before this update but it was always there. If you lower your brightness to the lowest level, you can definitely see the issue in a dark environment no matter the iOS version.
 
Kind of weird, but before I restarted, the Play Next, Play Last, and other buttons were gone from the music menu
And I could have sworn there was a Player Later as well.

Battery Apple Watch S4, 7.4 latest beta is really bad or I don't know what's happening to my watch, yesterday was ok, first it didn't charge more than 95%, now in an exercise in 10 minutes passed from 95 to 89, it's too much, generally it drop like 4-8% or less for a full exercise routine, at 30 - 1 hour.
*Watch is on 91% battery health
** Still testing.

I guess the slight modem bump on the 12 Pro has helped Verizon with the same 46.0 carrier profile. On the previous beta, there was a bad dead spot in between Saums and Katy Freeway on Barker Cypress here in Houston. I had between one bar and three bars on LTE/5G and had zero data service. Voice worked fine. Now on this beta, no issue in the same exact place.

That area is notorious for bad signal. My office is nearby and always have only 1 bar of service.
 
Ok guys, I did a test because I was not convinced that all the Oled screens have that crappy smearing.

I noticed this after the beta5 installation.

So I did a downgrade.

Same settings, looks with your eyes.

When did you last factory reset your device and reinstall iOS? I’d be more concerned by the bad stutter your iPhone than any slight colour variation..
