Unfortunately there's more than a couple people who wished they never installed 14.0 due to a few big issues they encountered. Basically it's the same story every year... Why oh why did I install a .0 launch day version of iOS?

Yes, and you may not like what I'm about to say but I hold the beta testing consumers at least 50% at fault for when Apple's OS's hit the streets for install. Nearly 100% of the time people just want to "play" with the betas but never report issues, and leave it to Apple to fix issues that are never reported. Then they come here and rant when they are actually part of the problem.

I wouldn’t include App Library as a Top Feature.

No one understands the point of App Library.
App Library is utterly pointless. It's only valuable if you are the one who decides where things go. Besides, what does it provides that folders don't.

and I'd like the option to return phone call and FaceTime notifications to full screen. I never really found it a problem.

and with the new widgets, where did my list of favorite numbers go?
It just contains all the installed apps and is mainly there for those who don't really use folders or organize what they install -- App Library can help make things less messy on their (often multiple) home screens full of apps in essentially random order.

Others who organize their apps and have their own folders and all that, all of that is still there and works as it did before.
The way Apple organizes the Apps in the App library is not how I want them organized, most of it is illogical.
It's mainly up to the app developer to properly assign an appropriate category for the app.

Plenty of issues get reported which usually includes most of what people still experience with release that come out of betas. How those reports are looked at, prioritized, dealt with, etc. is a somewhat different story.

I do not mind the update, do not even mind the App Library. I just wish Reminders was set up to be a widget, I use that app like crazy.

I’ve forgotten that a lot of these features are iOS 14 since I’ve been running the beta since day 1 because of the pandemic and being at home all day. And I swear the automatic switching of the AirPods didn’t work for me until the official launch. That’s my favorite thing.

As for the people complaining about the App Library, having used it for months the way I use it is I simplified down to two home screens. One for work and one for home, with a couple small widgets. I then have everything else crammed into the App Library. It learns what you use most so I rarely have to dig down and if I do I just start typing the first few letters and then tap it. It’s really not a big deal and you don’t have to use it. I think it’s ok but could use some tweaks going forward.

My biggest gripe is not being able to set which Home icons show up in control center. Wish I could pick from a set. But I like that it shows more than 9 now, especially after massively increasing my home automation stuff during lockdown and finally setting up HomeBridge on a Pi4. I also wish I could group my shades together but still be able to independently control them. They take up so many slots! We need, like, Home folders or something.

Apparently quite a few people were experiencing problems with it. Only YouTube Premium-or-Red-or-whatever-they-call-it-these-days subscribers could use it.

That’s probably be why. I’m currently on a YT premium trial. Just switched to a private tab and sure enough it doesn’t work.

Notes, great lets remove the Share icon.
Lets create some new circle icon with dots,
open a pop up and lets create item called ’Send a Copy’ inside
lets then open another popup with the original Share menu inside it.

Way to complicate everything just to get to the AirDrop icon.

lets not change every other app to be the same, just make Notes convoluted.

I had everything neatly organized so I thought App Library would be useles, but I actually quite like it. It organizes apps in a similar way as I did manually and the new app search and list view are also helpful. I'll see how it works out long term.

Home screen widgets are of course great feature, which I've been missing since I switched from Android years ago, but third party developers needs to update their widgets to be able to use them like this. Apple widgets are a bit... basic.

Some things are a bit half baked though. No way to rearrange home screens, no way to add new widgets to stack from edit stack menu (only drag&drop from home screen, but you need to have the widget there first), Safari translation not available (I read that it's a region limited feature?)... And many new features aren't available on 1st gen SE (like back tap would be nice, had this option on my old Android, no improvements in camera app), but that's classic Apple. Still, performance is solid, although battery level does seem to drop a bit faster.

Still got built in people tracking?

Thanks I'll pass.
I love this take. It’s a feature that is not only turned off BY DEFAULT, but it requires a third party app be voluntarily installed in order for it to be turned on. If you don’t want to be “tracked” I’d suggest you probably throw away your phone, computer, and any credit or debit cards you have.

So the "quality" of the released code from Apple would increase substantially if people who didn't want to report didn't "play" with the beta and didn't "rant" about these issues on MacRumors forums? You're saying the code base quality would be better?

The way Apple organizes the Apps in the App library is not how I want them organized, most of it is illogical.

I do not know if I am correct about this, but I do not believe Apple organizes them. Developers add meta tags to their apps to determine how they are grouped. At least, I’m confident developers add such tags, and I believe that they are used in both App Store organization and in App Library organization.

App Libeary exists because of the new home screen widgets. Apple thinks most of its users are too dumb or lazy to make their own folders of apps so they created the automatic App Library for them. It's not like anyone has to use it.

I’ve been pondering all this this morning, and I think the reasoning comes into focus for me. I agree that it has to do with home screen widgets:

So, we’ve already had the exact same functionality: Spotlight search. I can swipe down anywhere on my home screen(s) except the very top, and search for any app. This is half of what App Library does.

Redundant functionality isn’t a bad thing, and I’m sure that there are plenty of users that don’t think to use Spotlight. But it occurred to me that a mid-screen swipe may no longer be reliable, because of home screen widgets! I can now stack home screen widgets, and I swipe up and down on the stack to switch between them. And even without a stack perhaps there are swipe interactions with individual widgets. That means that potentially there are areas on your home screen(s) where invoking Spotlight doesn’t work (and worse, does something completely unrelated)!

It's only valuable if you are the one who decides where things go. Besides, what does it provides that folders don't
Well it’s never going to be exactly how everyone wants it, you can create folders and arrange the apps anyway you want on pages.
Bingo. For those who want things organized just how they like them, they can already do that and can keep on doing so. Perhaps for some users that is a mountain and not a molehill and they’d rather not take the time. For them this is a nice thing Apple has done for them to do some heavy lifting.

One thing I’d like to see is the ability to eliminate the folder portion altogether, just turn it off. Keep the alpha listing with the search bar so that search is reliably available to me no matter how many home screen widgets I’m using. Another is smarter organization. See my note above, perhaps Apple does not (yet) play a big role here. In any case I can expect it to improve over time. It’s meta data, it can improve.

App library may not make sense on iOS 13, but perhaps this makes more sense in this new world.

I think this is something we need to do with any new iOS release, is to live with it a little and to give developers a chance to take advantage of things.

Any changes to Car Play?

Why does the new incoming phone notification have the accept and reject buttons right next to each other? Way to easy to hit the wrong button if you are using the phone with one hand and want to hit the button with your thumb. The buttons should be on opposite sides of the screen. Linked in does this too with invitations and it's way too easy if you have fat fingers to hit the wrong button.

Mark my words, within the next day or so you will see news articles that say security fixes in iOS 14 make it mandatory that you must upgrade your iOS immediately. Especially if your on a 11 or 11 pro. It happens every time a new iOS is released. It’s secretly how Apple gets the pie ratio in favor of the new iOS. Forbes just ran an article today “iOS 14: Apple Just Gave iPhone Users 11 Security Reasons To Update Now“

iOS 14.0 has given my XS no issues I've noticed. Battery life seems normal or possibly better than that and all my apps work OK. The App Library baffles me, and the widget screen just seems weird. But hey-ho, no problem.

Sadly I couldn't watch the video due to Google having ruined YouTube with advertising - can anyone tell me how to beat that? Obviously without paying to not be annoyed; if you have to pay to not be shot in the face it's called extortion, I think I'd rather be shot in the face than watch another Grammarly ad with its intensely irritating voiceover.

It's not perfect, but I'm really appreciating this update so far.

I love the back tap--I have an instant apple TV remote, using a shortcut that turns my Roku TV on then goes right to my Apple TV, so I can use certain Apple TV apps or go straight to Airplay.

Siri not taking over my whole phone just rocks.

Picture in picture with FaceTime is amazing, so my picture doesn't blur when I want to look up or send a text.

I have a widget screen with just the weather and my calendar, which is so helpful.

I have a new default browser until I restart, lol. I really wish I could change Maps though.

And I think the App Library is great. It's at the end of all your home pages. I like the idea of not showing certain pages--even though I had all my apps organized the way that I wanted, but I really like that I can see them all alphabetically while swiping up.

Emoji search is great for me.

So far, I'm super impressed.

My New Years resolution for 2021: finally lose that finger weight!

Considering what Apple has been doing lately, it is not surprising that it is illogical.
(Looking at disabling force touch on the watch with watch OS 7, forcing users to download the same app multiple times onto different devices sharing the same Apple ID instead of allowing iTunes to mange the apps, etc.)

You have to install it for Apple Watch 6. That REQUIRES iOS 14.
