iOS 14 Beta 5 ― Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

I am seeing this behaviour with graphics in Safari also. Now occuring on both my ProMax and IPP 11.
Was browsing through Amazon and started getting pages like this:

Killing the Safari app and relaunching it seems to fix the issue ... for a while.
Going to keep my eyes out as this has now occured more than once today in Mail and Safari.

CTRL+ALT+DEL on very old operating systems, and in the pre-boot firmware environment, causes a warm restart.

In more modern operating systems (for Windows think NT and up) it's captured by the operating system if the operating system is still responsive and brings up a menu letting you for example start Task Manager. It's captured at such a low level that the system has to be pretty hung for it to not work...however...if something is sufficiently wrong just getting those keys captured doesn't mean you'll be able to do anything useful with the options presented to you.

In any case, CTRL+ALT+DEL while booted into an NT and up Windows environment will allow you to perform a normal restart, but it's the same as going to Start > Power > Restart.

Vol Up, Vol Down, Hold Power is only like that in the sense that it is captured at a very low level by the phones firmware. It is essentially the same as pulling out the power cord in how it responds to capturing those key presses. This is necessary because you can't pull the cord from an iOS device, or unplug the battery easily.

The best iOS CTRL+ALT+DEL equivalent is holding Vol Up + Power since that then allows you to perform a clean shutdown, just like CTRL+ALT+DEL on Windows.

Again, it is NOT the same as pulling the plug. Pulling the plug causes immediate power loss and can cause power surging upon restart... the Vol Up, Vol Down and holding Power is simply initiating a restart sequence... whether it's at a low level or a surface level is immaterial... and is no more harmful than a CTRL-ALT-DEL sequence on a Windows computer.

I used to do those a lot but was told it was better to simply “slide to turn off” because the hard reboots are the equivalent of pulling the plug on a running computer...

It is best (safest) to use the power off slider. They both do the same thing but if you are hard locked up the "hard reset" option may be the only recourse available. But if you CAN simply reboot you probably should do it that way to be the most safe.

Yeah, I should get out of the habit of hard resetting the phone and just rebooting normally.
 
Just did a call with my ProMax using my AirPods Pro.

1. Answered on my phone and switched to the APP
2. 30 seconds later - silence.
3. After 10 seconds switched to speakerphone and back to APP
4. So far during the call, the sounds in my APP have cut out for a second or two multiple times.
4.1. Cutout 12 times during the 18 minute phone call.

Yeah, issues still exist.
 
Not seen many changes in CarPlay in B5, but I still don’t like this inconsistency that carried over from B4. I get that it’s trying to just have that space for the microphone dots, but still it just looks odd

I have the DB 5 installed on my iPhone 11 and I am not receiving notifications from any apps...including Apple News and all 3rd party apps. This also is the same with my Series 4 Apple Watch running WatchOs 7.

Anyone else having these same issues?

Well do what you want but Apple seems to recommend the normal restart when you can and force restart when you can't.

Bug for me at least, dynamic wallpapers are not dynamic on the Lock Screen when unlocking the phone. They are dynamic when you pull down the notifications page. Weird.
 
Apple News+ Missing Channels

Since updating my iPad Air to iPados14 pb5 The Guardian (UK) and The Economist have stopped loading.
The Guardian displays text “this channel is not available in your region” and The Economist just shows blank pages. Other channels seems to appear as normal.
If I switch to my iPhone XR which is running iOS 13.6 - the Guardian is affected in the same way but The Economist is working.
It’s only happened since I updated the iPad.
Anyone else Have anything odd with Apple News+?

That's me jumping on the Beta train - a little later than normal this year. It's taking a loooooooooooong time to download . . . . .

Also I'd hoped to avoid the giant "Other" size issue. I thought it'd gone in B4, but I see a couple of Members on here saying it's back.
 
Anyone notice on beta 5 of iOS 14 there is no longer a call blocking app setting in the phone settings? I only noticed because one of my apps told me it was off and there is no setting to turn back on.

Now it’s back. Has to be a bug. I haven’t seen this happen in years.

Yea, I’ve got some I’ve logged and they say no similar reports, but I see many people having same issue on this forum. The widgets being out of sync is one, I raised it for weather and clock a while back and it claims no similar reports

happened to me once about half hour ago on App Library, first time since B5 came out.

Have had 3 instances of my iPhone claiming it had restarted, when it was locked. Hoping this is not a reappearance of the random crashing I suffered from B1-3 😳
 
I am the only one who rather have widgets on the lock screen than the home screen?
I think I have to go Max next time to have room for any widgets.
