Android has had these features for almost a decade so iOS/iPadOS are catching up. For people that use cross platform this is welcomed change since it makes iOS/iPadOS less annoyingly outdated.
Since we are generally discussing baseless claims, android is the poster child for an operating system that has literally copied most of everything from somewhere else, such that saying Android "had it first", really isn't a high bar of anything.

Only if it runs well. If it runs like crap, then no, it’s no answer. I’ve avoided iOS 13, so I could avoid iOS 14, too. In fact, it would serve me to stick with iOS 12 because iOS 13 BREAKS Safari iCloud synch with Macs below Mojave (and I can’t upgrade to Mojave).
Switch to Firefox & set up Firefox Sync - easy peasy - and your browser tabs, history, passwords, etc. will all go with you regardless of OS version on Mac or iPhone/iPad. That's what I did and I couldn't be happier!

I saw Luke Miani's video about iOS14 and he said that iOS 14 runs smoothly on his 6S. Obviously not as quickly as on his XS Max but it's most definitely doable. That's promising, since the version he installed is only a pre-beta of course.

I bought a second hand MBP mid-2012 two weeks ago and it ran on High Sierra and I noticed that iCloud tabs did not work. I couldn't figure out why, but what you're telling explains it all. After I upgraded it to Mojave the 'issue' was fixed. Although it won't run Big Sur, it doesn't really matter because Mojave will get updates for at least another year and the reason i bought it in the first place was to run 32-bit apps and play DVD's. So that makes the Mid-2012 MBP a perfect notebook for me. Can't wait to try Big Sur on my 2019 27" iMac! 😃

This is great news!

And I wouldn't be surprised if both the 6s and original SE will also get iOS 15. They have 2GB of RAM just like the 7 and even 8.

I could see it going either way. Apple seems to be only dropping support for devices every other year these days and with all of Apples more recent chips being quite powerful RAM is more likely to be the limiting factor going forward. I could easily see them dropping all the A8 & A9 devices with iOS 15, but I can just as easily see them keeping support for all of them with iOS 15, and then dropping everything with less the 3 GB of RAM the following year.

The classic posts comparing iPhones to luxury (Mercedes...) cars are wrong. iPhones are like Hondas or Toyotas. They last so long that Apple loses sales, but it's worthwhile for their reputation. Meanwhile, if you drive a Nissan or Chrysler that costs less upfront but breaks down all the time, consider an Android phone to go with it.

Honestly, I think the A9 devices will get iOS 15 or possibly even 16. Considering how the iPad mini 4 got iPadOS 14, I expect that Apple will knock it out next year with the Air 2 and make the A9 the new baseline for iPadOS. The A9 has been the baseline since iOS 13 and I expect it to stay that way for next year as it's still capable.

Speaking of the A9, there's really no major differences between that and the A10, except for the HEVC encoder in the A10 (allowing you to save space on your photos and videos), and even then it's not a huge deal if you have a 128GB device or greater. The A9 and A10 are really similar under the hood, not taking into account the fact that the A10 has four cores (but only two can be used at a time, either two high performance or two low performance so it's effectively not quad core). The GPU is even merely an improved version of that in the A9. The A10 has a PowerVR GT7600 Plus while the A9 just has a GT7600.

Most of the performance gains actually come from the increased clock speeds in the high performance cores (about 2.3GHz if I recall correctly). For example, look at the 2019 iPod touch. It's been throttled back to 1.6GHz (the A9 is 1.85GHz) and as far as benchmarks go, they perform the same. If they continue to support the iPod touch, I predict that they'll continue to support the 6S as well.

Is iOS14 available to download for iPhone 6Plus and is it available to the public? I have a perfectly good, usable 6Plus but for the last 2-2.5 years its gone berserk! I can't unlock my phone and when I can, I can't select anything because its as if there's a ghost controlling the phone. I can't do anything. Its so frustrating.

Lookup touch disease. It’s a common problem we the iPhone 6 Plus. That phone can’t update to iOS 13 or 14- it’s latest version is 12.5.1 as of now.

Touch Disease?? o_O What a pain! Talk about planned obsolescence! I am really starting to detest the use of smart phones. All this money and Apple can't be bothered to make the 6+ usable. B-------!!😤🤬😤😤

It’s been close to 7 years since that phone was released. And if you had had the problem years ago Apple had a repair program to fix it for free.

I've had the phone for about 6-7 years. This problem started 1.5 years ago. So its way out of their repair programme; I doubt very much they'll do a repair without charging an arm & a leg for fixing a problem they knew about.
