The IOS Podcasts app is so bad compared to other podcast apps. It’s fiddly, and the adjustments you can make are so confusing.

there is so many easy changes they could make, they need to, Spotify will be going for it this year

Haven’t really got any issues with the Podcast App-the fact it allows Patreon RSS feeds in there with minimal fuss keeps me going back to it.

I do like that Spotify has everything in one app though. If they allowed you to import RSS feeds then I could be tempted to switch back.

Finally!
Now all they need to do is remove the iTunes Store app from the iPhone, integrate an iTunes tab into Apple Music, then all the apps will be modernized.
iTunes is already built right into the TV app, I don’t see why it’s not built into Apple Music, and still is in its own dedicated app. I think that’s stupid

Also, the iTunes Store app hasn’t been touched in years

podcast not being baked into apple music makes no sense.

Just please make this stuff optional, because I don’t want it. That truly would be ‘for me’. And I really loathe the idea of podcasts exclusive to one platform, yuck.

Agreed. I’ll just add that Apple Music doesnt need a whole iTunes tab (that would be redundant with « discover »).

It just need to make it possible to buy any track playing from within Apple Music. Very easily achieved by adding a « buy now » in the list of options (when clicking the 3 dots).

I can’t believe it’s not an option yet.

This is probably one of the worst apps I've ever seen. Let's see if they can make it usable.

edit: and please incorporate the Beats 1 Radio Shows. those things are solid content and practically impossible to listen to.

I continue to struggle with the Apple Podcasts app because I have a large backlog of podcasts in iTunes and I use iTunes to keep track of what I've listened to and my own backlog. The lack of ability for third party apps to help me keep track of what I listened to and when in my own tooling has left me with iTunes and as a result the iOS Podcasts app.

My simple use case is that I want to listen to the oldest podcasts I have in roughly the order they showed up. On the old iPod's you could create a playlist to do this and it worked well. The Podcasts app used to do this really well but Apple keep adding features to it so as to make it less functional. I have this mostly working with stations but it's a slog. Once upon a time I could just plug my phone into my car and it'd play the last podcast I was listening too, then the next one and so on. Then they updated the podcast app so it'd play some random podcast. However it would get stuck and try to play the same podcast, then fail because it'd deleted the podcast off the device and had been playing it over wifi which worked whilst I was at home but would fail once I got out of wifi range. I ended up with a Siri Shortcut that worked for a while to coax the device to play the station I only ever want it to play. Somewhere along the line this broke and Siri would say 'something went wrong with the app'.

Then a year or so ago after an iOS update the podcast app would inexplicably delete unlistened to episodes and I'd have to sync thousands (I have a large backlog) of podcasts back onto the phone. It would do this without rhyme or reason. I initially thought it was space related, so I bought a new phone with more than twice the capacity and it kept doing it. I raised an AppleCare case and they worked through it but basically they told me to delete all of the podcasts and uninstall the app on the device, reinstall the app, disable sync and a bunch of other features and then it'd work. After 13.5, I re-enabled sync and immediately it went on a podcast deleting spree.

Now with this back drop Apple some how think they're in a position to make some play for podcasting? Every so often I look into figuring out a way out of the Apple podcasting space but none of the other options give me the ability to personally track what I listened to and when. Maybe when they make the next round of improvements it'll be broken enough to finally figure out.

I don't Have too many issues with the podcast app with one major exception: they need to make syncing podcasts with your watch easier. I can choose the specific podcast to sync but not the specific episode or how many episodes. I think their sync of music with the watch is perfect, never had a problem.

The main reason that I keep using Apple Podcasts is a good search engine which is superior to other podcast apps. I usually search for certain topics and Apple Podcasts provides the best results. In addition to that, it also provides private RSS feed (Spotify does not). But overall, the playback experience on the app is terrible. Also, am I the only one who wants a podcast app where you can create a playlist? I like to have a queue of different podcast episodes which I would listen on my way to work. Unfortunately, only in Spotify you can create a playlist of podcast episodes (although in Pocket Casts you can favorite episodes and find them under separate section)
