It was under Facetime and then scroll a lot. I do have an iPhone X however I thought I didn't have the feature until I scrolled and scrolled on the Facetime setting.

There’s not much to scroll on my iPad. But it doesn’t have FaceID so that makes sense.

I don’t have the “burst with volume up” button or “video with volume down” switches on my iPhone X in camera settings but the burst still works if I hold volume up. Can’t get the video one to work though. That can’t require a more recent iPhone can it? That would be nuts. All it does is save a swipe and a tap...

The inner nerd in me is excited for the possibilities of the sound recognition integrated into Siri Shortcuts and automation. “When the baby cries, show me the HSV camera so I can check on him” will be one of the first

wonder how many times Siri will notify (nag?) you on this - I imagine sitting on a plane, trying to tune out the baby crying behind me with a movie and a noise canceling headset, only to be further interrupted by Siri telling me there’s a baby crying

And still no custom Do Not Disturb schedules. I've requested this via feedback to Apple for years and years. :(
In the meantime, have you tried using the shortcut app to create personal automations that turn on/off dnd at custom days/times?

Apple's good at hiding stuff. I kinda don't think 4K on YouTube is right on a phone that doesn't even have 4k display itself.. for 'native' viewing. Make of that what you will

Playing at a higher resolution than the native display resolution compensates for loss of detail from video compression. I often play 4K on non-4K displays because it not only looks better but also helps to make out fine details. Not as useful on phone sized displays though.

A 4K YouTube video on e. g. a 1080p screen will still look noticeably better than the same video in 1080p.
Really? Why? Intuitively you’d think the only difference is whether the downscaling is done at play-time, on device, or at render-time on potentially a big powerful computer, and you’d think the latter would produce at least as good results, likely better.
It is because of chroma subsampling. This video explains it really well.

I would NOT recommend using "Back Tap".
For example, in my experience, I had it set up as:
2 taps= screenshots -- I have an unnecessary large amount of accidental screenshots in my camera roll.
3 taps= lock device -- My phone locked unexpectedly from normal grip and use of phone.

Damn right. I work funny schedules and i cant use DND like i should
Strange that something fairly basic as that hasn't really been looked into for so many years.

Perhaps using some shortcuts or automation features might be the way to go about it as a workaround of sorts.

I can’t believe it’s taken this long to get the mirror selfie option.

it was always frustrating how the saved image was never the same as when you took it, that enabled option should be the default tbh.
Kind of odd that something like the mirroring option doesn't seem to be available on all devices with iOS 14.

Apple deems unnecessary for customising DND schedules, so they won’t add it.
“We knows best. Everyone else is not.”
That's a youtube thing. They want you on premium. It is the only way they will allow background audio.
I mitigate that issue by disabling auto lock while letting the video play in the foreground. Yes, it burns battery, but YouTube can’t stop me from doing so, unless they go above and beyond by enabling facial recognition and stop video playback as soon as the user looks away.

That is if you are using the YouTube app. If you search and view videos from Safari or any browser and lock the phone, it will pause once, but then just hit play on the controls and it will play all day long. I’m sure they will disable this once iOS 14 officially releases. Don’t they charge for this feature?
Excellent information, thank you! I tried it with Safari knowing it wouldn't work with the app, but didn't think to check if I could press play. I have Apple Music and Spotify, so I'm not terribly worried about this myself, but it is interesting to know others now have this option.

Everything he talks about happens at the point the video is captured, essentially he’s saying 4K cameras capture better video. He doesn’t suggest there’s any advantage having the option of viewing the full 4K video on your 1080 screen, compared to watching a downscaled version.

That already exists. I have it set to turn on DND from 10 pm to 5 am. Yo can also use the Siri Shortcuts app to set a DND automation that you don’t have to touch again.

That’s a good point. I’m sure you could put a clause in there though to check to make sure you’re at home, or maybe disable it if you’re using Do Not Disturb or airplane mode

Yeah, there are definitely what seem like some obvious options missing (camera launching for instance) from the double and triple tap options. Also double-tap is triggered for me a lot when putting the phone down on a table.
You can have it open any app (such as the Camera - I have it opening Settings) by creating a simple shortcut that does nothing apart from open said app, and attaching the shortcut to the back-tap feature.

I believe the custom schedule is in relation to be able to set different DND times on different days.

Exactly. I am well-aware of the DND feature that was included starting in 2012 and I do use it. My issue is that I want custom schedules. Custom as in different schedules for different days, such as start at 9pm and end at 6am M-F, and start at 11pm and end at 9am on Saturday and Sunday. Can't do it. Or one schedule for 2 weeks and a different schedule for the next 2 weeks. I have family members that work a 2 week on, 2 week off schedule and DND is useless.

I am also aware that the updated automations in iOS 14 allow one to create something like this without having the stupid notification asking you to run it like in iOS 13. But relying on an automation script is not the same -- and not as easy for someone like my wife -- as having a simple switch in the DND Settings to allow for custom schedules on different days. It would probably take 100 SLOC at most to add that feature and I am disappointed it's still not there.
