But those statistics say nothing other than someone downloaded an update...

15 billion copies of X was downloaded today.... 14.999billion copies were deleted the following day.

Oh look, an update... clicks on the update button.

An hour later, sh*t this update broke my device... scrambles to figure out how to downgrade their device.

Statistics... steering the herd since 1984.

Nowhere does it state "downloaded" or "clicks on the update button." The chart clearly lists the percentage of devices that "use" iOS 14.

He complains that more features in iOS take up more disc space so he wants to get compensated for that by receiving more free iCloud storage.

iOS 14.3 finally seems to fix the RAM issue I have had since iOS 13.1 on my iPad 6th gen.
Thanks for the run down.

We have never been able to get 128GB free on a new 128GB model. Same goes for Android, Mac, and Windows. Said forum member appears to be misinformed.

I wonder how many of those poor users are now experiencing lag when they first start typing text messages. Apple should slow down with those updates until they get the bugs for one of the main uses of a phone ironed out
Maybe one or two? Doesn't seem to be widespread. (widespread is relative to the entire population of iphones eligible for ios 14)

Speaking as an enterprise IT manager, I'm stupid envious of how quickly Apple gets their end users up to the latest OS with no fuss. You should see how the old fart dinosaurs in our Accounting department stick to Windows 7... same **** happened with Vista/XP as well. You should see how the developers (who should know better) stick to outdated iterations of Windows 10 🙄

It's like a moron badge of honor to be ages behind the releases on the Windows side.

Our door control system at work has a particular Windows service that will flat out refuse to work on anything higher than Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2

The supplier had a suggestion, upgrade to their new system...at a rough cost of £170,000

Sadly not an isolated case either, all we can do these days is isolate such cases from the network as best we can

We also had the mammoth task of upgrading 4500 computers from Windows 7 to Windows 10 but luckily have got a big team of contractors in sorting that out, ironically however due to how Windows 10 works some of our Windows 10 builds are out of support now (1709 etc) so are in theory less secure than the Windows 7 devices we still have as we have extended support for Windows 7...argh!

I think my next job might be a gardener or something

Probably more than that:
With maybe 50 or 60 or 70 million iphones out there on current versions, MacRumors isn't a litmus test for the entire population. Generally it seems to be some people claim to exhibit issues (or are more sensitive), while others claim those issues don't exist.

Simply commented on the number observation.

You know there is no memory card slot in iphones.I just inform you about this.

Still using iOS 6 and no plans to update. Later versions simply sucks.

Hmm, the guy you quoted delete his post or something?

Anyways, I know that feeling. My iPod Touch 5 is still on ios7. My iPad Air (1st gen, from 2013) is still on ios8. IIRC, it was about 4 years later when things get "noticeably more incompatible". If there were updates to some games (especially crucial ones), can't get them at this point. FWIW, the existing games play mostly fine. And those 2 devices ended up getting relegated to video gaming. Shockingly, I recently purchased a game that works fine on ios8!!

I've known a few people avoid ios11 since they didn't want to lose access to 32-bit games that didn't make the leap to 64-bit.

And to think of the billions of hours wasted and untold millions of petabytes of data needlessly pushed across the internet when all that could be eliminated if people just waited until AUGUST to download the OS ONCE.

I've heard it happen to a couple other people I know as well (because they ask me when they have tech issues). And considering how unwilling people on this forum criticize anything Apple does or quickly suggest going to android instead, I'm guessing this problem is much more pronounced than your original suggestion that it's one or two users. Indeed, it's not a litmus test, and sometimes it's a break from reality.

According to this post, it's a "common issue," and their solution might help some users, but it didn't work for me.
"This is a common issue, that’s occurring mostly in the Messages app."

You can also google the issue to see how common it is.

I absolutely love that you can minimize the FaceTime screen, where it doesn’t ‘overtake’ the entire display, where you can now look at a different display while you’re in FaceTime with someone. Bliss.

Is this one of those "easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission" type of situations? Just force the update on everyone over some holiday weekend and when Janice from Accounting blows her top, "oops sohwee."
This is what I do at work. Someone else got it to the nearly-broken state. I don't care if I'm the guy who finally breaks it.

Why wouldn't those on iOS 14 want to get updates and fixes and wait for almost a year to get them?

I remember reading how Apple gets these statistics. It's by measuring the iOS version of the devices which access the appstore. But now I wonder how many old i-devices in perfect condition, never access the appstore because every time they try to download something they are told their devices are too old ?

Because you see news like - "Apple has a fantastic control... 80% or 90% of the iphones run the latest iOS version".. And I wonder how true is that - if they use the above method to measure the adoption.

I mean, you can't have it both ways. On one hand the Apple devices are praised for their durability. And I think it's true, I have a few devices super old, ipod touch 1st gen, iphone 4s, ipad 1, ipad 2 and others, and all work perfectly. Including the battery. So if the Apple devices are so durable, then you can't proclaim - 80% of the Apple devices in existence - run the latest version. So what happened with the old ones ? They just vanished ? Are in the trash fields ?
Or maybe they are not that durable after all ?
So either Apple devices are super durable and last 100 years :) Or they are not, but the ones that last, run the latest iOS. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

People really do hang on to their iPads a lot longer. My friends kids still use an iPad 2 and an iPad 4.

You should add that apple is killing the previous iOS so that if something is broken you are stuck with it and can’t go back and you will be hoping that the next release will fix it and you are f....#$@
They should do the statistics about how many are happy with iOS X ...

Well, the main reason for these type of statistics is for developer use, so it makes sense they would focus on devices that access the App Store as that would be needed in order to download and install apps from developers.
