We have never been able to get 128GB free on a new 128GB model. Same goes for Android, Mac, and Windows. Said forum member appears to be misinformed.
They’re complaining that iOS takes up more space than it used to, not that it takes up space at all.

There is a good reason for that. New software is rarely better in terms of stability and performance. It only gets better with continuous updates and then people forget and think that the software was this good all along.
That’s a reason, but not a “good reason”.
Updates bring new features and more important: improved security.
So it’s not wrong to complain about lazy users.

Well, with those daily nags popping up on top of the screen (even blocking 2-factor ID authentication codes!), it's no wonder people's first instinctive response is to just push the damn "Download Now" button and get it over with it.

And if you think that's irritating, you should see what Apple does to Apple TV 3 users who have refused (imagine that!) to update to the latest TV OS (or whatever it's called) because the YouTube Channel "pause" is still broken. (Rumor has it that the just-released Update has fixed this, but considering the track record of Apple's updates to fix buggy software, I'm in no hurry.)

Just how aggressive has Apple become with these constant nags to update update update or else?! Well, it started out with the nags to opnly appear between shows on non-Apple channels (ie., Netflix, Amazon, YouTube). Then they started to appear if you had paused the video in Amazon for longer than 5 minutes. And then, the nag started appearing right in the middle of music or videos or even movies you were watching from your iTunes library on Apple TV 3!

And just 2 days ago, that nag showed up in the middle of a rented iTunes Store movie; it blocked the screen until you made your decision (yes! no! later!), while the audio continued.

Wow, they're so desperate to get you to update (but never telling you why it was absolutely necessary) that they will interrupt a rented iTunes movie!
It’s a good thing to push updates that way. iOS is a very secure os because of the high adoption rate.
There are other os out there if you don’t get the importance.

I was forced to upgrade to 14.3 when I had to restore a backup using DFU after a restore on imazing went bad with a reboot loop 🙄

Weird stat. Did you know that 99% of iPhones sold with MagSafe are still being used?

Where are those people who upgraded and then downgraded. I had all kinds of heating issues with iOS14. After I downgraded, everything is back to a perfectly working phone. The good part is that I am on the last iOS 13.7

when your options are "install now" and "nag me again in an hour"
Well, there are options to disable automatic download/install of updates. There are also options that even if that comes up to not install (rather than installing now or later).

That aside, the context of installations isn't really something that is accounted for as it's not something that plays a role when it comes to these stats that are there mainly for developers.

I'm running iOS 13 on my SE2;
my 12 mini came with 14 installed.

I dislike the changes to Widgets in 14. Not updating my SE2 anytime soon. (Hoping I will come to appreciate the new widget-ry in 14 as I continue to use the mini.)

(Edit to remove really, and to add the parenthesized hope. :)

Outside of actually having widgets now, why not just pretend they do not exist?
