I've been using Macs and iPhones and developing on them for years. I tried hard to notice a difference between non-120 and 120, but when I compare scrolling even between an older iPhone X and iPhone 13 Pro I seriously do not see the difference. Maybe it's because my eyes are getting worse and I'm getting a little bit far-sighted? Or maybe it's because I'm not a gamer? I'm thinking it's because I'm getting far-sighted and I still don't wear glasses so everything is a little blurry even with 120. But that would only explain the text fuzziness while scrolling. I still don't see a difference in scroll speed or smoothness.

Which is weird because I could definitely notice on the iPad.
 
The real embarrassment is that this wasn’t a thing at launch. Not sure if it’s because software engineers work from home, but it shouldn’t take 4 months for this to happen (still in beta so it’s going to be longer than 4 months)

Just got my 14” MBP M1 Max in on Tuesday. No 120Hz scrolling in Safari until Wednesday. I thought my machine was broken since ProMotion was enabled in System Preferences. It’s amazing (pathetic) how they only added 120Hz scrolling in their very own web browser 3 months later. It seems like the software engineers don’t find out about new hardware features until the general public does. For a company that prides itself on tight integration since they make hardware, software and services, it’s kind of an embarrassment.
Definitely agree, but I see what’s going on is less so a consequence of WFH than a company that prides itself on doubling down on secrecy internally. Yes, the endgame is a symbiotic ecosystem, but software can’t know what hardware engineering has planned for fear of leaks and vice versa for future X.0 or .X update feature sets.

Yeah, I'm beginning to think 120 or Pro-motion (alone) is not worth the price difference from iP13 to iP13P. Maybe the extra 2GB RAM + camera zoom + Pro Res is worth it. If the iP13P had the same 4GB RAM I wouldn't think twice about getting the iP13.
 
How about Apple give us the Always On Display that they are 4 Years Behind Android on? The iPhone 13 Pro has a AOD Capable Display. Get it done already.

Isn’t that simply because the OLED on the iPhone has 0ms pixel response time, which means there’s 0 ghosting, which makes the picture look more jittery? The iPad Pro is very smooth but has INSANE ghosting. The pixel response time is really *really* bad. The ghosting shows as a sort of motion blur when scrolling, which does make it appear buttery smooth, but it’s actually a bad thing.

On the IPad Pro for instance any side scrolling games that move with any sort of speed are literally unplayable. Because in side scrolling games always all the pixels change at once all the time (except maybe your character) it introduces insane amounts of blur. It’s actually made me nauseous before in a side scrolling music game. I had to quit that sadly.

The iPhone because of its perfect pixel response time is more jittery but has no such motion problem.

You could be right, but what I want to highlight is the fact that this guy in the video measures the fps in real-time and the numbers say iPad can hit 110-120Hz refresh consistently (when needed), while iPhone can’t - it even drops down to 70-80 in some cases (fast scrolling, etc.). Some people say their iPhone 13 Pro screen is more similar to 90Hz screens (OnePlus 7 for example) rather than 120Hz screens (Samsung flagships for example).

Fair enough. I do feel like the iPad Pro is slightly smoother, however the iPhone still looks great and it’s a big improvement over 60hz. It would be nice if it could hug 120hz most of the time. Sadly I don’t think Apple would be liable either way, since they’ve always claimed “up to 120hz”.

I’m guessing it’s not a technical limitation so much as a battery life concern.

That said, having a toggle to prioritize 120hz at the cost of battery life would be nice, since on the Pro’s battery life isn’t a concern anyway.
 
Millions of dollars in R&D and advertising, 3 major software updates in 4 months and we finally have it fixed in a beta which won’t come out before march, making it 6 months, or half of the lifecycle of the iPhone 13 pro.

Apple software engineering team is a total disgrace. Seriously. Bugs over bugs over bugs and not even the basic stuff works.

yeah its still buggy; i thought ios would be more stable but I'm encountering bugs
