iOS 15: How to Use Hide My Email

Could be he mistook a - for the +. The plus works but not all site profiles accept it. Ps Other symbols like the . are ignored by gmail. No experience with the _.

One of the websites I trie to create a acct with HME failed becos they do not accept email addr of having ‘-‘

I wish HME could have an option to choose the delimiter, given the apple generated random email addr is of modular type.

This plus the private relay feature sound gold plated. I know you have to sign up and pay monthly, but it'll be way more value for money than Apple Arcade or Apple TV plus.

Yeah. I became a paid iCloud use just becos of Private Relay and Hide My Email.

Particularly love Private Relay becos it could hide me from my office knowing the sites I visited during working hrs.

It is such a pain to use Hide My Email feature when paying via ApplePay. Every time I do this my payment gets rejected (I checked with my credit card issuers that the problem was not on their end) and I need to enter my real email address which is my Apple ID. Then the online merchant clearly sees my real email address (which in this case my Apple ID).
I hope Apple fixes that at some point.

Hello, I am a bit confused with your issues. I normally use Apple Pay for contactless payment.

Do you mean the merchant would check the email addr that registered to merchant vs that registered to Apple Pay?

The feature doesn’t seem to be fully working as Apple described… if I create an alias email, use it, receive messages in my actual inbox (forwarded from the alias)…. Apple says that I should be able to REPLY from the Elias email. That’s not working. If I send a reply, it will show the recipient my alias as the DISPLAYED name, but they can easily see my real email address.

I did a test and replying from relay email addr did work!

Sent email from my gmail account (act as the web site I am trying to fool) to the relay email addr and then replied it to gmail addr. While the reply was shown in the Sent Box of my real email addr, i saw this reply msg in gmail mailbox and the sender did show as the relay email addr.

Noted the above all were done via the iOS stock mail client!

Actually, I did the test right after the email relay feature officially launched in iOS 15.

I have done the test again just now as I saw your post.

I figured out how the email relay works in replying email.

Actually, when someone sent a Email to your relay email addr. Another replay addr was created for the sender in iCloud mail, it looks something like:

user_at_senderdomain_randomstring@icloud.com

e.g. in my case, the relay for the sender looks like:
xxxx_at_gmail_com_r9q4b276qf57cy_b88m7684@icloud.com

Hence, even though you reply to the sender with you real email addr, you are actually replying to a relay addr for the sender in iCloud. And iCloud should relay your reply to the actual address of the sender.


So, only iCloud knows the real addr for both of you!

Before, I thought the xxx_at_gmail_com_randomstring@icloud.com thingy was a bug and even reported to apple. Haha!

No need to turn it off if you do not use any email relay addr.

Did you encounter any issues when reusing a email relay that was created for sending email in the mail app for communicating with the others, ie sending emails to other ppl?

When do you use hide my email though? When you're email address is needing for random websites and you don't want to give it.

What about starting a new email thread from an already created hide address? Not being able to do so has caused me a lot of hassle.

Unless I’m missing a hidden interface feature… 🤷‍♂️
