You can now use the random email address when you send emails in Mail
What about the fact that using Mail, as an SMTP, causes your IP address to be inserted into the mail headers?
You can now use the random email address when you send emails in Mail
I own a domain and then use a bespoke address for each and all sites which get piped to a single master (catch-all) account. e.g. macrumors@mydomainnamehere.com. That way I can:
1) See who sold my email / has slack security, allowing my address out into the wild (Yes I mean you, ProtectYourBubble, GolfOnline, LinkedIn, Tumblr etc..)
2) Blackhole that address.
Alternatively, with Gmail, you can add an underscore and then anything you like, and you will still get it.
E.g. mygmailaccountname_macrumors@gmail.com
Having a bespoke email address is good as well as if bad people get a hold of it, they can't automatically be sure they can login to your account elsewhere, should you make the mistake of reusing a password which lets face, we all have done at some point.
Does it mean they can see your real gmail ?I believe it should be a plus symbol:
realemail+companyname@gmail.com
However some forms either don't accept that or quietly remove the part after the + anyway
Apples preview materials indicate that their system will substitute a different IPA similar to what safari private relay does. What about the fact that using Mail, as an SMTP, causes your IP address to be inserted into the mail headers?
Yes this gmail feature always gives away the address because it’s the part before the +.Does it mean they can see your real gmail ?
Thanks for the infos, it's not worth it, they will keep spamming as usual 😟Yes this gmail feature always gives away the address because it’s the part before the +.
so if you give out your address as A+B@gmail com, recipients know your real address is A@gmail com. It was never intended as an anonomizer like Apple HME is.
Agreed. Using the gmail in this way doesn’t confer any anonymity and is a lot of work to set up and keep track of.Thanks for the infos, it's not worth it, they will keep spamming as usual 😟
I’m on holidays - will give it a shot when I get back. I mean, what the hell, I’ve lost 6 percentage battery health over the course of the beta period - without them - anyway. The public betas have run well on my 6S and iPad Air 2 (oldest iOS 15 supported devices.)
Meanwhile, on non beta iOS 14.7, both my mom and sister have each had pairing problems between their Apple Watch 6 and iPhone 11.
They dont want their huge CP collections that theyve spent years on 4Chan build up to get flagged? Why wouldn't they?
Yes - if you remove everything after the +, the rest is your real email address.Does it mean they can see your real gmail ?
is it an underscore or a + ? I never got the idea of this because any automated system can take out the underscore or the + from the email address and then use the original to spam email you.
I also noticed some won't allow you to signup with a + email
In case you haven't seen, I got the gmail bit wrong. It is a plus (+) sign, not underscore. Thanks for sharing, while I don't want my own domain, my primary email is with gmail so thanks for sharing that tidbit!
Can I please ask your view on why you will be converting Sign in with Apple to Hide My Email format? For consistency’s and simplicity’s sake, I think I will eventually convert my about 25 existing SIWA accounts to HME format as well.
I have been using Hide My Email recently and I created an email address for an account which I later deactivated and deleted.
Is there any way of recovering that email address or at least finding out what it was?
Did they ever contact you? If so, you should see the address they used.
I dont see this option in Mail too - any suggestions ?The article says you can use the hide my email from Mail to sent mail, is that possible from the MacOS Monterey beta? Because I dont see that option. In mail I can only select my real email addresses...
Is Hide My Email still in beta? If so, should I wait to use this feature if I’m converting 160+ logins?
Same here. A reply shows my true email addy. The feature doesn’t seem to be fully working as Apple described… if I create an alias email, use it, receive messages in my actual inbox (forwarded from the alias)…. Apple says that I should be able to REPLY from the Elias email. That’s not working. If I send a reply, it will show the recipient my alias as the DISPLAYED name, but they can easily see my real email address.
