I own a domain and then use a bespoke address for each and all sites which get piped to a single master (catch-all) account. e.g. macrumors@mydomainnamehere.com. That way I can:
1) See who sold my email / has slack security, allowing my address out into the wild (Yes I mean you, ProtectYourBubble, GolfOnline, LinkedIn, Tumblr etc..)
2) Blackhole that address.

Alternatively, with Gmail, you can add an underscore and then anything you like, and you will still get it.
E.g. mygmailaccountname_macrumors@gmail.com

Having a bespoke email address is good as well as if bad people get a hold of it, they can't automatically be sure they can login to your account elsewhere, should you make the mistake of reusing a password which lets face, we all have done at some point.

is it an underscore or a + ? I never got the idea of this because any automated system can take out the underscore or the + from the email address and then use the original to spam email you.

I also noticed some won't allow you to signup with a + email

Does it mean they can see your real gmail ?
Yes this gmail feature always gives away the address because it’s the part before the +.

so if you give out your address as A+B@gmail com, recipients know your real address is A@gmail com. It was never intended as an anonomizer like Apple HME is.

Thanks for the infos, it's not worth it, they will keep spamming as usual 😟

Agreed. Using the gmail in this way doesn’t confer any anonymity and is a lot of work to set up and keep track of.

Apple’s HME is a clever solution that gives good anonymity both in the address and masking IPA in the mail header.

I’m now completing converting the last of my online accounts to iCloud HME addresses. Also converting the gates newsletters I receive by email too.

by the time I’m done my real email address will only be used personal correspondence with friends anything outside of that will get its own HME address (and apple better put a search feature and right margin alphabet slider because if you have several hundred of these addresses you need search and nimble access.)

The public betas have run well on my 6S and iPad Air 2 (oldest iOS 15 supported devices.)

Meanwhile, on non beta iOS 14.7, both my mom and sister have each had pairing problems between their Apple Watch 6 and iPhone 11.
I’m on holidays - will give it a shot when I get back. I mean, what the hell, I’ve lost 6 percentage battery health over the course of the beta period - without them - anyway.

You're absolutely right, sorry. Brain fade moment on my part.

The article says you can use the hide my email from Mail to sent mail, is that possible from the MacOS Monterey beta? Because I dont see that option. In mail I can only select my real email addresses...

For consistency’s and simplicity’s sake, I think I will eventually convert my about 25 existing SIWA accounts to HME format as well.
Can I please ask your view on why you will be converting Sign in with Apple to Hide My Email format?

My understanding is the SIWA, only the domain you sign in with can email to your @privaterelay.appleid.com email whereas HME anyone can email to email address? Would this correct?

Also you mentioned reply function not available yet, would it be on first day of iOS15 or they will implement after? What about the initiate new email?

Atm I am deciding if I should use AnonAddy to create all my alias for each website or change over to Hide My Mail. Anonaddy has all these functions - reply, initiating emails, unlimited alias and really good dashboard to manage. Also I don't Mail app on iPhone/iPad. I use Spark and Chrome. So means I need to change to Mail app/Safari or use both Spark as main and Mail when I need to reply if HME have reply/initiate email function.

Do you have any thoughts on this?

Thank you

P.S I haven't tried Beta yet

I have been using Hide My Email recently and I created an email address for an account which I later deactivated and deleted.

Is there any way of recovering that email address or at least finding out what it was?

Did they ever contact you? If so, you should see the address they used.

Good suggestion but it was a social media account login. Looks like the social media account has gone as I can’t recover it using the usual methods. That’s what I get for tinkering late at night when half asleep!

I dont see this option in Mail too - any suggestions ?

Is Hide My Email still in beta? If so, should I wait to use this feature if I’m converting 160+ logins?

The feature doesn’t seem to be fully working as Apple described… if I create an alias email, use it, receive messages in my actual inbox (forwarded from the alias)…. Apple says that I should be able to REPLY from the Elias email. That’s not working. If I send a reply, it will show the recipient my alias as the DISPLAYED name, but they can easily see my real email address.

I’m getting the same problem as well. Are you able to initiate a new email from the alias? I can’t seem to do it.
