I'm curious who will be updating to this beta while waiting for their new iPhone but I'll be holding off this till then.
Wasn't it a couple of years ago that the beta wasn't available for the new phones yet so those receiving it on launch day could not set the backup back to the new phone? Anyway, since then I hold off installing the beta till I get the new phone.

Yup. I think it took a day to get that straightened out.

According to your signature you are already fully kitted out…. iPhone 14 Pro Max, Watch Series 8 45mm, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone SE, iPad Mini 4, Watch Series 6 44mm, ATV 4K 2021, MacBook Pro 15" (Retina, 2016), Beats Solo 3, AirPods 2, ARRIS AX11000 Tri-Mesh, •T•••Mobile

Is anyone else contemplating waiting til their 14 arrives so as to make the initial restore smoother?
Idk why it would make a difference, I find updating new device without restoring backup (connecting to wi-fi and setting up as simplistically as possible), wiping, and then restoring backup (a backup of a device, optimally, also on latest beta) to be sufficient whenever I get a new device. No iTunes required for me; I always go over-the-air without so much as a hitch :) but your mileage may vary.

This update is just not available to me on my iPad. I've been on the beta profile for a month. I'm on the previous iPadOS 16.1 beta. I've rebooted twice now. It still says I'm up to date.

I've never seen this happen before. Anyone else?

Oh, shoot—didn’t think of that. Don’t listen to me.

What drugs they got you on?

if I got a new phone on friday...

id set up as a new phone quick, down load the profile, install the 16.1 beta, then do a tethered restore from my Mac using an encrypted back up id made for 16.1 (iOS 16 encrypted back up in Archive)

or on Mac, download 16.1 IPSW file, hold alt and click restore, select 16.1 IPSW and then it will prompt you after for your encrypted back up you've made earlier.

or is that a around the houses kinda way?

or yeah you can do that phone transfer thing between two phones but they both need to be on 16.

It showed up on my iPad right away, strangely, but my iPhone was acting in the way you describe. Giving an “Up to Date” even with the profile installed. It sorted itself after closing Settings and then re-opening and checking again. No restarts required.

sometimes things can be slow depending in what country you reside. give it a few minutes or...
... Delete your dev profile and reinstall it, can help fix this.

This seems to be the update that introduces Matter support / the new HomeKit architecture? Can anyone confirm whether there is an upgrade prompt visible in the Home app?

Stage manager hasn’t really changed. I was able to get it to crash almost instantly again. And going to software update causes an error now. I do see Matter Accessories in the settings
In the last iPadOS beta, I could get Stage Manager to crash easily just by enabling it, hiding the current apps area on the left, and then moving my mouse to the left side of the screen. I reported it, but it said there were no other similar reports in the Feedback app.

I guess it doesn’t matter, right? Because you’re not downgrading. But there is no modem update so what’s the point.

It’s not installed yet for me. You better not be playing…
Thankfully not 😂 It was actually the first thing I looked for 😂

I wasn't overly bothered by it being left out before, but it is nice to have the option there now.

Yes that was for the X. Thinking about it passwords are saved now in Settings so that was the only thing I never wanted to lose. But I’ll still probably wait.
