16.1 RC broke the Homekit connections in the home app. The individual OEM party apps work fine. I just can't use Siri anymore, I suppose.

Given the number of bugs that has to be squashed, don't be surprised if Apple releases a second Release Candidate just to make sure the critical ones are corrected first.

With shared photo library - does that mean that all photos taken in the shared accounts will go into a single shared library automatically? Or do you have to select which photos to share?

I ask because my wife and I currently use just one iCloud account so that any photos either of us takes goes into the same photo library. This would make it easier if we can use two separate accounts but have them all still automatically go into the same library.
This "old" MacRumors post describes the options available: Shared Photo Library

As far as I understand, you cannot have all photos go to the Shared Photo Library automatically always. It depends on factors like proximity (between you and your wife) and location (like at home). While taking pictures you can change the location for the pictures that you are taking.
I think the option will work well for my family, to replace the current shared albums with low res pictures. Since you can only be part of a single Shared Photo Library, that seems to be the only use case. At least that is how I see it.

The savings account in the wallet app is super intriguing. Depending on interest rate I may drop some money into there.

The Matter menu doesn't show up in my Settings app as has been reported. Does it maybe require at least one Matter enabled accessory?

... and is 16.1 the iOS update that'll enable the new more efficient HomeKit system to be opted in (that requires a HomePod mini and discontinues iPad support)?

Only thing I'm sort of looking forward to is the Apple Card Savings Account. Curious what yield Apple and Goldman will be offering. Might even give some clues as to whether Apple's going to move further into financial services.
Agreed -- I'm surprised we don't have the interest rate released yet.

Why do I have this feeling that iCloud shared photo albums is going to require using your iCloud storage unlike regular Shared albums which does not use any of your iCloud storage.
I am confused as to how this differs in function from shared photo streams that I already use.

Shared iCloud photo libraries, shared iCloud albums, shared photostreams…. Can any normal user figure out which is which?

I can’t wait for iCloud Shared Photo Library!! This will be a game changer for most people :)

No more AirDrop and we will have access to the same library 😍

I'm hoping this fixes the bug where the three dots do not appear when the recipient of an iMessage is typing. I've suffered this bug (so as my Mother, and partner) since iOS 16.

Why wouldn’t it? And why would you think it shouldn’t?

If you prefer shared albums there will be nothing keeping you from continuing to use them in the same way.

Yes.

I’ll stay in my 15.7 bunker until the discovery of a major security issue forces me to leave it. The only things I’m “missing” out on are Find My for my APP2s and detailed sleep tracking from WatchOS9.
Still hoping iOS17 will be a complete overhaul like iOS7 was.

Okay, next week I finally upgrade my 12 Pro and X to 16. I’ll just wait a day or two (Tues. or Wed.) in case there’s a serious bug reported with 16.1.

Homekit and its development support has been a complete s... show. I better request 2 days of Annual Leave in advance knowing that after the upgrade nothing in my home automation will work.

Family screen-time became non responsive on ios16. Getting tired of going back two steps with every major release.
This is extremely annoying. I have two kids with iPads that have a scheduled screen time to enable at 9:30pm. Quite a few times, my wife and I would hear the iPads still on beyond that time limit. My kids don’t look at the time lol. They just go to bed when the iPads stop working. It turns out Screen Time just decides to randomly disable and restore itself to defaults. I I had to re-do their whole Screen Time and restrictions set up about five times since iOS 16 😡

Edit* and a just a short 12 minutes after posting this, I had to re-do my kids’ Screen Time schedule 🤦‍♂️
