I have the HomePod mini updated and now have a temperature icon.

I dont seem to see that- I have a temp icon but thats from a hue sensor in mu basement. Looks like i am up to date. Any suggestions?
Stupid question but my homepod mini is first generation. I looked if colored ones are a second gen but couldn’t find

All minis support it. If you have any devices not on 16.3 (inc Apple TV apparently) you won't have the function enabled.

I have not been able to upgrade my phone yet to 16.3 so I can only go by what I have read, but I have read that in order to enable advanced data protection, you need to sign out of iTunes as it is not currently compliant with the Advanced Data Protection option.
Hmm. Also all devices have to be on iOS16 as well. I have an old iPad 4 mini that I keep on older version so I cannot turn ADP on for that reason too. SMH

Another stupid question. I have an iPod that I use for podcasts at night. It can’t update… will that effect it? Also others in the house devices- do they need to update?

All devices have to be on 16.3 from what I have read. But I honestly don't know if that is true or not for things like iPods. I know the iPhone definitely has to be because I didn't get the feature enabled on my already updated to 16.3 HomePods until I updated my phone to 16.3.

Hmm not sure what im doing wrong. I uodated phone ipad apple tv and homepod mini. I got nothing. No temp other than the hue in basement
Anyone have suggestions?

Just saw macs need to be updated too… i have an older imac that i dont use. Also have an older apple tv in a vacation home not on my home wifi

Thanks for pointing that out. I still have an air2 on my account, so there's that too, ugh.

Yes indeed. It's all part of the new HomeKit foundation introduced with 16.2 where all devices have to be on at least 16.3 and macOS Ventura.

So are we basically saying that since i have an older imac i cant use this feature in my home app even tho apple tv, ipad mini, MacBook air and iPhone are all updated?

I believe how it works is that if you remove any devices that cannot be updated from your Apple ID and therefore your home, then you can update your compatible devices.

Then when you re-sign in with your older devices they will work apart from having no home access. As I say, I believe that's how it works and will await to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Are we talking about two different things here? I don't think the temperature and humidity sensor should be dependent on the HomeKit architecture upgrade. The architecture upgrade was optional, and Apple did pull it due to bugs. Have not heard if we'll be given the choice to upgrade the architecture in 16.3 yet. (I don't think we will.)

@Phreddyl, you're sure your HomePod mini is on 16.3? (You enrolled the HomePod mini in the beta program to install it?) How long ago did you do this? It does take a little bit for them to show up since it has to calibrate first. I think it took about an hour or two for me.

What happens if you ask "Hey Siri, what is the temperature in here?" She'll either say can't do that (if the HomePod is not on 16.3); or she'll tell you the temperature (or that she's calibrating and to try again later).

Do the sensors show up in your HomePod settings? They should show up under Accessories.

As mentioned in my previous post, we're confusing two separate things. The HomeKit architecture upgrade, which you seem to be referring to here and several other posts, has nothing to do with the temperature and humidity sensors. You should still be able to see them on your current devices.

As for the HomeKit architecture upgrade, Apple did pull the update so you have nothing to worry about right now. When they do release it again, you'll be prompted if you want to upgrade your HomeKit architecture when you open the Home app. It will list all devices tied to your Apple ID and let you know if they are/are not compatible with the new architecture, or if they need to be upgraded to the latest OS version. You can leave it as is, so all devices remain compatible; or if you do upgrade, then you won't be able to use the Home app on the non-compatible devices anymore.

It’s been a few hours. I ask and it gives me the temp of the downstairs hue sensor

Where is your evidence that the HomeKit upgrade to the new architecture has nothing to do with enabling these new sensors in the HomePods along with 16.3? I am not saying you are wrong but I would prefer to see absolute proof before we start separating the two issues.

It's a shame Apple aren't more clear about these things.

Its also a shame that if accurate if you have any older mac products you cant use the new features on the newer ones. I have a iphone 13- newer Apple Tv, MacBook M2 air and the new iPad mini. I have no need for an updated iMac. Honestly its rarely used but we keep it

When you say remove device from from  ID , does it mean simply uncheck it in the list ? I have a 2015 MacBook Air

Sign out on your device(s) so it removes it from your Apple ID account. Of course, and some devices that’s easier said than done.

This all seems like a lot of work for the mini to give me the temp of a room. Its built into the device- shouldn’t be hard.
Probably asking the obvious here, but have you tried restarting the HomePod, or resetting it? I know some people have stated they needed to do that.
