I know audio tuning was listed specifically as part of the HomePod software release notes, but I swear my 13 mini’s speakers are brighter and more bass-rich than ever on this RC. One thing I will always love about Apple is the importance of music and sound engineering to the core of its brand and the DNA of its mobile devices. :)

Oh, and the OG HomePod is sounding great, too ;) haven’t yet bothered with the mini

I’ll have to test those on my MacBook more extensively later on.

In regards to Advanced Data Protection, I heard it is also giving users grief who use iTunes on Windows. Hopefully the new replacement apps will come out of beta soon to address that issue.

Starting this week, every time I open up my App Store I get a pop up to turn on notifications. I always select Not Now as that’s the only “decline”-type response. But it still always returns. Is this fixed now?

13PM, apple one sub, 16.2

What problems are you having? I updated to the new architecture and it was choppy the first day or two, but a Wifi reboot later and it all stabilized and has been for the past month.
My scenes and automations have been all messed up. The wrong playlists play when I arrive home, or play in just one of the rooms instead of everywhere, Siri tells me things like the Apple TV are taking a while to respond meanwhile they’re actually working fine. It’s just been a really poor experience. I obviously reported it to Apple.

Had data drop out twice in the past two days, once after I was in a garage with poor reception and walked out and another time after leaving home Wi-Fi. I still had service and the 5G icon was still there, but loading pages was extremely slow. Resolved after toggling airplane mode
Had this happen once this morning. I hope it’s not going to be a thing.

Touch input lag after wake from AOD still not resolved. There is a split second lag when AOD wakes and I try to scroll up notifications on the Lock Screen. Touch doesn’t register.

Did a bit of testing with the camera to see if there are any issues or changes.
Still seeing serious lens flare when taking shots in dim light - this case evening with fireplace.

Below are two photos taken side by side (13 ProMax -OnePlus 10 Pro)
Not sure what is up lately with the camera. At this point I wonder if it has a hardware issue

The third photo I changed settings and now am getting a reflection but minimal flare.

RC issue? No idea at this point but likely a software issue I think.

There seems to be a delay when waking from the lock screen in general on at least my one non-AOD iPhone (a 13 mini) across multiple IPSW installs spanning several recent versions of iOS. It’s not always there, but when it’s there it’s undeniably laggy. Seems to crop up more with now-playing elements on the lock screen, often, in my experience, when connected to a HomePod that is streaming music.

Sorry if that seemed off-topic, just wanted to share because it’s been a persistent issue for me and I rarely see it discussed…and I feel it may be related to what you’re experiencing.

iCloud Messages is driving me freaking insane. I HATE having attachments or knowing those are there (a mental thing) and always save photos that I actually want to save directly to my photos and delete everything else (otherwise it becomes a huge mess). However, a day later it suddenly shows photos in the conversation details that were not even there the previous day or photos that I have already deleted multiple times!

Also it would show photos in the conversation itself, yet those photos are neither shown in the details nor on iPhone > Settings > Storage > Messages

Where are those damn attachments coming from. Apple really needs to make it easier to delete stuff from the cloud as well. They should have a look at WhatsApp for example. Pretty straight forward. „save automatically to camera roll: YES“ „select all delete: YES“ and done

Oh and my turn on focus X on sunset and turn on focus Y on sunrise automisation works even more unreliable now than on 16.2 😓

You have delay in screen wake? Mine is more of delay in touch input after waking from AOD. This issue was reported on reddit

Right out the box, the phone behaved this way. On iPhone 14 pro and pro max models with AOD

I had a slight lag on the tap to wake after the phone had been asleep for a while. But that went on 16.3 beta 3.

Still fine now on the RC.

In regards to Advanced Data Protection, I heard it is also giving users grief who use iTunes on Windows. Hopefully the new replacement apps will come out of beta soon to address that issue.
What sort of grief and what apps are you referring to?
My lockscreen alarm clock widget is still broken for sleep alarms. Seems to work fine for manual alarms but won't updat me for the sleep one 😤
See below
Same! isn't it??
On the alarm widgets, I had same issue after the install but after some gyrations of turning alarms (sleep and manual) off and on and rebooting etc it came back and has been working since. It seems maybe you need at least 1 manual alarm along with the sleep alarm for the sleep one to work. (havent totally verified) Since I got it working and I actually use two alarms a day I have left it alone in fear that it will hose up again. I never used the widget until after some previous conversations with @gwang73 and testing it I got to where I liked it. :)

Has anyone activated hardware-based iCloud 2FA and successfully used a Yubikey Bio to authenticate using an adapter?

I'm trying to figure out if a biometric Yubikey will work with an iPhone using a USB-C to lightning adapter.

Thanks for the reminder! Gonna give this a shot and see

I had a weird loss of data the other day, took 2 reboots to get it back. Then just yesterday I lost gps completely, Apple Maps, Waze, and GMaps all stopped working, fixed with a reboot.

Can’t believe this is the rc, they are gone have to rush out 16.3.1 real quick as this thing is not ready for mass release!

I lost GPS the other day for a couples minutes on 16.2 while in Waze, so I don’t think that was 16.3 RC related.

For the first time in 16.x, memory management seems to be much better now. Things left in private mode are not coming back to login screen again and again in 16.3 RC.

I have not been able to upgrade my phone yet to 16.3 so I can only go by what I have read, but I have read that in order to enable advanced data protection, you need to sign out of iTunes as it is not currently compliant with the Advanced Data Protection option.
