It would be nice if it could integrate with the existing Tesla Apple music app
Music and Podcasts, while both audio, are very different media and listening experiences. A music apps UI and management are a poor mix for podcasts. Spotify is the poster child for that problem.

It would be better if Teslas would just allow CarPlay like most other auto manufacturers so that users could control and manage the apps themselves.

Why on earth is the podcast app Still using the old style now playing scrubbers for volume? Like this is a glaring difference between music app and podcasts…how lazy are these designers seriouly?

Good to know! At least it's supposed to work. It has never once worked for me.

How hard is it to get right, right? Nutty!
This hasn’t worked for me ever either. It drives me absolutely crazy. It syncs my shows instantly but never listen history. Podcasts app on my iPad and Mac are useless since it doesn’t sync with iPhone. It’s not even hard to do, every other app had it. But I love the design and ease of first party one so here we are. if I remember right it did once upon at time work but I think ios 13 or so broke it for me.

One feature I would like is to be able to delete a podcast recommendation. A lot of podcasts aren't aimed at me but still get recommended to me. I should be able to say don't recommend this to me in future.

It's great to have improvements to this app because the UI and behavior is so incredibly confusing 😓
I'll give them a last chance, otherwise I'm going to look for an alternative.

Thank Christ. The state that app is in is a complete joke from the leading tech company in the world. Total mess, but even that isn't as bad as their horrendous, disastrous Books app which needs to be re-conceptualised and built from the ground up.
It seems like syncing is one of the harder things for Apple! It's not only the Podcast app, but in past years, there have been issues across various iCloud services. It seems to be mostly resolved now, or in my case it all seems to have resolved except the Podcast app. In the past, I had such terrible time getting iCloud tabs to syn. Oh wait...screen time syncing has not worked well for me either; that is still unresolved and I have turned it off.

A step in the right direction for the Podcasts App. The app definitely needs more love and improvement for me to use it full-time. Until then, I’m pretty happy with using Overcast.

One of the reasons I switched to spotify and it is available on my console so I can listen podcasts and easy manage it from my iPhone.

Absolutely. I just completely abandoned calendar.

Whereas in previous versions there is one page where I could toggle on and off notifications for all followed podcasts, now I have to go into each podcast listed under "shows," tap the three dots, tap settings, and then toggle on and off notifications for that show. And these settings do not sync across devices.

Can someone confirm this? I hope I am missing something.

I still find it peculiar that if you search ‘podcast’ from the Home Screen then it doesn’t show the podcast app as a search result! 🤦‍♂️

Apple seems to refuse to acknowledge the listener model of "I found a new podcast and I want to listen to it in order." Even if you went through all the settings so that it played in that order, it would never download the next one to be listened to ... it would keep downloaded the newest one (or several). Even Support confirmed there was no way to get it to automatically download the next one you're going to listen to.

I'm hoping this update brings that behavior? Please?

You might want to check out Overcast or another third-party podcast app

Ugh. So ios 16.4 deleted all the podcasts synced from iTunes on my PC, and my phone won’t sync wirelessly at all now? Maybe it wiped out the pairing between iTunes and my iPhone, and maybe connecting via a cable will get it to sync again?!

I know Podcast syncs. It sycns on mine too. But it doesn't fully sync in the sense that, for example, if I'm listening to ABCD on my iPhone, I can't just go to my iPad and expect it to both sync and show that I am listening to ABCD and take me to the right timepoint. It doesn't do that as far as I can tell, even if I just wait for it to update. It does update, for example, what podcasts am I following, which ones have recently played, and the like.

Also, what's up with "Up Next" and the actual list of what will play next. I don't get why there are those two distinctions. Up Next and what will actually play next should be the same list!

The Podcast system is nutty. The only reason I use it is because it is a common app across all my Apple devices and does mostly sync, even if not fully.
Same here, I would've long ditched it if it wasn't a common app.
Apple seems to truly hate the concept of a regular playlist.

Right? And what the hell is the "Play Next" and "Play Last" command? Ok, I know what they are but it is an asinine way to add items to your queue.

Take for an example a podcast that has 4 episodes that are meant to be listened to in chronological order. In order for me to add each item in a way that enters the queue in the right fashion, I'll first go to the last episode, then click "Play Next" and do that for the next one. So essentially I'm adding in reverse chronological order in order to get them to play in chronological order. There are other ways to add these episodes, but none that I know of in which the order you add them is the order they would play without having to do some tricks with Play Next or Play Last. It's crazy.

Yes, I know you can visually resort them once added to the list, but that's doing double work. Once you add them you have to go in again to re-order them? Nah. There's got to be a better way to do this with a better User Interface.

All of this stuff literally worked better in 2005 when Apple first added podcasts to iTunes and had them sync with the iPods of the time

I also never had a single problem with apple’s 30 pin connector, and have yet to have a single device with lightning not fail on me. (I can only think of a single USB device that’s failed me.)

It blows my mind that they keep making podcast support worse over the last 18 years

And why the heck don’t they have the ability to establish a syncing relationship with a PC without USB? This is well within their capabilities to do that simply and securely.

I’m going to be messing with VLC…actually, on the suggestion of Bing’s chat A.I. I use VLC constantly on windows, but I haven’t really used it on iOS except messing with it years ago, and it looks like MAYBE if I’m lucky it actually would more or less have the capabilities I need in a podcast client, if my iPhone 13’s lightning port is dead already 😡

A while back, I started using Overcast as a podcast app. I liked it quite a bit, but I was not going to keep subscribing to an application; I don't mind paying for one but I do mind subscribing for one. So, I just reverted back to podcast after I stopped my Overcast subscription.

I've never used VLC to manage my podcasts. I've only ever used it to edit videos or more like re-encode or rip DVDs ;-)
