Troubleshooting Steps (Telstra/iOS)
If you are having issues after installing 16.7.13, try these steps:
  1. Reset Network Settings: Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This is often the most effective fix for "SOS Only" or 4G connectivity issues.
  2. Verify Carrier Settings Update: Go to Settings > General > About. If a cellular update is available, a prompt will appear automatically.
  3. Take out SIM card, restart iPhone and then put the SIM card back.
  4. Toggle Airplane Mode & Restart: Turn Airplane Mode on, wait 30 seconds, and turn it off. If that fails, restart the device.
  5. Verify VoLTE is On: For older iPhones, ensure Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is enabled, as 3G networks are being phased out.
  6. Use Computer for Update: If the update fails over the air, connect to a computer to update via Finder or iTunes.
Noob question how do I check for VoLTE for an iPhone 8

So I found by taking the SIM out, you're able to make SOS calls.
Couldn't with the sim in.
In case, of emergency.

Edit: Telstra need to be making this potential life-saving workaround known...

Yup... thank goodness. Step one complete.

Now those already on 16.7.13 need a solution. 🤔

Contacted AppleCare who checked my phone issue is not at the phone end
Checked Telstra they now have a note about “iOS 16.7.13 we are currently investigating an issue blah blah blah and don’t update until resolved” (a bit frigging late)

I think i am really stuffed now.......I tried to put the phone back to 16.7.12 last night but before I did I backed it up, then installed the old IOS which seemed to work but now I cant restore from the backup because I had the new IOS 16.7.13 when I did the backup on itunes....

Just out of rabbit hole curiosity, anybody NOT yet updated AND running iOS 16.7.12 tell me the version number of the Provider ?

If you go into Settings-->General-->About and scroll down, what do you see under:

Service Provider (?)

(NOTE:- you won't see one if you've applied the update)

Apple is not signing 16.7.13 for the iPad Pro 9.7" so currently it will not "verify" the download nor install.

I would expect when the 'fix' is added to the software update servers, it will possibly either be re-instated or replaced by 16.7.14

It's a little odd since 16.7.13 reportedly isn't affecting iPad Pro 9.7" AFAIK 🤷‍♂️

EDIT to add:

I guess they stopped signing any 16.7.13 update until they understand the issue fully. Probably a wise move.

Apple is signing 12.5.8, 15.8.6, and 18.7.4 again as of this afternoon.

The issue is with 16.7.13 on Telstra Australia. Users can back up their data, wipe the device by installing 16.7.12 which is still being signed. This will erase all data!
