I think i am really stuffed now.......I tried to put the phone back to 16.7.12 last night but before I did I backed it up, then installed the old IOS which seemed to work but now I cant restore from the backup because I had the new IOS 16.7.13 when I did the backup on itunes....:mad:

You shouldn't need to "backup from a previous backup". Once you sign into iCloud everything there should download. I recommend letting this happen overnight when connected to power and on WiFi. Syncing a fresh device can take many hours.

I have iOS 10, iOS 12, iOS 14, iOS 15, iOS 16, and iOS 18 devices that all sync to iCloud. They all have the same synced info when they talk to iCloud. I have the 2TB iCloud+ plan.

Update 29 Jan 2026 at 3:30PM (AEDT):

  • Apple has released a carrier settings update to fix this issue
  • To install the update, follow these instructions:
    • Connect your impacted iPhone to Wi-Fi
    • Tap Settings > General > About
    • Accept the carrier settings update by tapping “OK”
    • Confirm the update installed by going to Settings > General > About and make sure it says “Telstra 54.1” next to Service Provider
  • If the Service Provider version does not show “Telstra 54.1” check you’re connected to Wi-Fi and repeat the steps above.

Yes, all working this end now. Have made calls, received and sent SMS. (I hope 000 is working, but can't really test that out!)
