FWIW the new layout's not bad (you get used to it quickly) and my move to iOS 16 was solid with 18 HomeKit hubs and various gear (Lutron/Hue etc). Every automation still works just fine.

I'm a bit nervous about this upcoming so-called architecture change though. I know it's supposed to be designed to improve performance etc. It's just that my HomeKit journey at times has been anything but smooth and if a change nukes my setup, it would take days... lol

That architecture change thing didn’t happen yet? Later update? Thank goodness. For a minute there, I thought this mess I’m facing now with HomeKit was the change lol. There’s still hope!

I’ve been meaning to nuke my whole network and HomeKit setup and start from scratch. Maybe I should wait a bit. Best of luck to all…

I noticed all Siri Shortcuts that were working on tvOS 15 on my HomePod stopped working when it got updated automatically to tvOS 16. I recently purchased a HomePod mini that's still on tvOS 15 which I immediately stopped all automatic updates and everything works fine. My iPhone is on iOS 15.7.

In a bid to see if I could get the shortcuts working again, I upgraded my iPhone 8 to iOS 16.0.2. Now, some shortcuts are working, but a lot are still broken. Even shortcuts that Apple has built-in also stopped working.

For example, when I say "Hey Siri, what's on the news?", it now says it will send google search results to my phone. When I try custom shortcuts, one of them got routed to another. It's pretty messed right now.

For those who are still lucky enough to have HomePods on tvOS 15 and iOS and iPad OS 15.7, I would highly suggest turning off automatic updates until iOS 16.2 is released.

Quick update from me: I ran the Onyx maintenance script and Homekit has been happy since (72 hours and counting...)

Didn't help. I have Ipod mini, 86 accessories, and seven bridges. just tested and try all the tricks but still automations failing. before IOS 16 all was perfect

Reseting my entire system incl. deleting any other users worked, so far fresh Home Kit install is working fine

I just performed the following and immediately the Home app updated showing accurate parameters.

Restart Apple TV (NOT RESET)
Sign out of Apple TV
Restart Apple TV again
Sign in to Apple TV
Restart Apple TV a third time

So far so good! All devices running latest public software including iPhone 14 Pro.

Well I wish I'd seen this thread before. I received a new iPhone 14 Pro yesterday and set it up. It broke my HomeKit set-up. I had updated my old iPhone 11 Pro to iOS 16 previously, and nothing bad had happened to HomeKit. Swapping this out for the 14 Pro has left me with everything connected to the internet and nothing talking to anything else.

I have a Mac Mini, 3 Apple TVs, 2 HomePods, so I have no idea which one is acting as the Home hub. Any suggestions?

Mac Minis are not Home Hubs but you can check which is the acting Hub in the settings section of the Home App. Tap on the circle with the 3 dots in the top right, tap on Home Settings, then scroll down to Home Hubs and Bridges and tap it. The acting Hub in the list (the first one) will say Connected. Might be a good idea to reboot that along with your network.

Thank you! Thank you! This all worked perfectly.

Gee that’s both intuitive and cumbersome 😆. But if it works, hey, thanks! Easy enough to try.

HomePod OS 16 is by far the worst operating system Apple has release for the HomePods. I have 11 HomePod minis at my place that were working just fine on HomePod OS 15.7. The second they updated to OS 16 all sorts of weird behaviours and stability issues started. When it's not some HomePods that stop playing randomly or Siri refusing to handle a request, there are delays or they just don't play music at all even after Siri acknowledge the request.

It's not the first time Apple breaks HomePod OS, but this time they broke it hard. My HomePod are barely usable now. I restart them at least once per day.

I have a very good Nighthawk router that can handle those devices and a 120 Mbps Internet connexion. I just need to wait for Apple to fix these issues again.

You’ve raised these issues with Apple I hope? You need to. Nothing will change until we start hammering it home direct to them just how crap their software is.

I went on a bug reporting spree last week. Also Apple Maps support which I have yet to hear back from.

When I spoke to them on the phone a few weeks back for a HomePod issue, the support tech was saying they’ve been very busy since iOS 16 released lol.

Please make sure to report it here as well as it goes direct to the HomeKit team this way apparently: https://www.apple.com/feedback/

@Itinj24.

16.1 will be out today!. It´s a big one, particularly because it will bring a big architectural change in Homekit to improve performance and stability (and to add Matter support).

We´ll see how this goes!.

Cautiously optimistic… as I am with all updates lol.

Sorry to pour salt on your excitement but I'm reasonably sure the new architecture has been delayed. Plenty of users were on the 16.1 betas and say that HomeKit is just as bad with no improvement.

I will be shocked if 16.1 fixes any of the issues we have been discussing for the past 2 years.

Are you sure about the big architectural changes in HomeKit? I think that is in a future update…?

Edit: twistedpixel8 got there before me

Oh well. We´ll see. The liner notes of 16.1 still say it, so perhaps it is something only activated completely along with the final public release, not in the betas, like Matter support itself.
