Can we bring back Jony for a video explaining in detail why the OLED is able to have battery percentage and LCD cannot 😁

Me on 15.6 with my 13 Mini

Me: Hey Siri, what’s my battery %?
Siri: Battery is at 45%

Already works with my phone. Nice and clear for me, with eyes open or closed. 👍

I think it's fair enough that Apple's not enabling the battery percentage on certain iPhones for size concerns (the iPhone 12 mini's battery icon is about 25% smaller than the iPhone 12/12 Pro's) or legibility concerns (the XR/11 have much lower pixel density; they're @2x instead of @3x).

Omitting it on the iPhone 13 mini is inexplicable under either of those reasons, though, because it has a @3x display and, thanks to the smaller notch, it uses the same size battery icon as the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

So, does this mean...

On newer phones (iPhone 14/13/12, etc.) you'll normally get s full battery icon with numbers in it...

And on older phones (iPhone 8, iPhone SE, etc), you'll get a partially filled battery icon, like now?

Well, well, well. Very interesting. I wonder how Apple will spin if they omit on the 13 mini. BTW, thanks for the lesson.

Thank you. Came here to make sure someone noted this. It may not necessarily be a very good one, but the other ones at least have an excuse. There is no excuse for leaving it off the 13 mini.

Hopefully the missing models get it in the near future. Also possible that devices with LCD display might not be getting it as mentioned in the article. Hopefully that is not the case.

All these problems will go away if you remove the notch ;-)

I have an iPhone 11 and it's odd they have omitted this.

There is a notch but also lots of space above the battery/wifi symbols where the notch is.

All the alternatives I have seen are much better designed than the Apple one.

Maybe it's a task given to a new guy.

Yeah! I get it when it happened with iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS (the first iPhone to show battery percentage). iPhone 3G couldn't display battery percentage because it didn't have the hardware capability. Don't think it's the case with iPhone 11.

At this point it seems likely Apple won't be bringing it to those phones.

Got a Mini and want the indicator? Buy the iPhone 14, 14 Pro, or 14 Pro Max.

Don't buy a small screen phone and complain there's no room for anything.

But the point is that there is room for everything. It's simply UI which makes everything look small. There was enough space for battery percentage on iPhone 3GS (screen is way smaller than iPhone mini)

It's strange that we are losing functionality that was available on iPhones more than 10 years ago.
