Since upgrading to 16 my phone won’t charge using CarPlay (and navigation) due to getting too hot. It’s not hot weather here.

Anyone else seeing similar? Was definitely not doing this last week with 15.6.1
Same here with my iPhone 12 pro. Upgrading from 15.7 to 16.1, I noticed that it gets much hotter during use.

Same here! I’ve tried everything. Waze is the culprit for my iphone13 heating up when plugged in for carplay. Doesn’t heat when using maps or google map. Tried unplugging from carplay and had waze on the whole for an hour drive and no heating issues. Plugged back in and in 15 mins the iphone heats up again.

I hope apple fixes this issue with the new ios 16

Same here with iPhone 12 pro and wireless carplay.
Using Carplay drain battery very quickly, and it get very hot.
Maps is the main vilain, but other navigation apps too.

For those of you mentioning the heat- did your phones get very warm at all using CarPlay before the update to 16/16.1? Or did it stay cool, and this is a 180 degree difference from the previous experience?

I never noticed the heat when using iOS 15. Right after upgrading to 16 so far, it gets hot in my pocket...

Any phone doing nav/mobile data in a car will get a little warm but with 16 release mine put a warning up saying battery charging was disabled due to over temperature. The phone was less than a week old at that point.

Since the first patch to 16 it doesn't do that any more though.

Interesting!
I have an SE 2022 running 16.1- I had it connected to CarPlay using navigation for 20 minutes yesterday and it was not even warm after that. Not sure why some phones are doing this, unless the iOS needs a full reinstall?
